Job description

The Institute of Molecular Medicine and Experimental Immunology (IMMEI) at the Medical Faculty Campus of Bonn University Clinic invites applications for a

PhD Position in Immunology (TVL13/65%)

This position focuses on investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying autoimmune complications in chronic infections with RNA viruses, specifically HIV and HCV. Utilising both experimental models and human patient cohorts, we investigate disease mechanisms, identify biomarkers, and explore potential therapeutic targets. Led by Prof. Dr. Zeinab Abdullah, our project provides an opportunity to make significant contributions to the scientific community under her expert guidance. In collaboration with Prof. Dr. Christian Kurts, our research aims to identify the roles of nucleic acid sensors in the development of autoreactive T and B cells, as well as autoantibody formation. The successful candidate is anticipated to demonstrate intellectual engagement and interactive dedication to the position by staying up-to-date about relevant literature and research publications. Additionally, they will be tasked with delivering presentations during lab meetings, as well as drafting the detailed methods, results, figure legends, and figures for grant proposals, progress reports, and manuscripts.

This position is available immediately and will be integrated into the IITB - International Immunology Training Program Bonn within the ImmunoSensation Cluster at the University of Bonn. Qualifikationsprofil:
Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Biology, Immunology, Virology, Molecular Biology, or related fields.
  • Background in immunological techniques and methodologies.
  • Ability to work independently and within a research team.
  • Good written and spoken English communication skills.
  • Passionate about contributing to ground-breaking research.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience with experimental pre-clinical models and human samples.
  • Proficiency in flow cytometry, imaging, or single-cell sequencing.
  • Familiarity with B and T cell biology.
  • Knowledge of Pattern Recognition Receptor signalling pathways.
