Job description
Main purpose of the role:
The Financial Controller (m/f/d) will be responsible for establishing and implementing internal control policies and procedures as well as delivering timely month end reporting. They will lead a finance team of 2 people and be the main point of contact for finance related matters. This role will work closely with the Head of Accounting and Tax and Head of Operations in the UK as well as the Germany Management Board.
To be successful in this role, the candidate will need to have a thorough understanding of regulatory and statutory reporting obligations, cash management and experience maintaining the sales and purchase ledger. They will also need to have strong leadership skills and be able to inspire and nurture the team around them - the candidate will drive change and improve current processes.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Align local reporting processes with the group's existing reporting system to ensure compliance with local legislations and deliver month end close in the same timeline as the rest of the group.
- Produce monthly P&L accounts along with variance analysis and commentary.
- Manage the month end close process ensuring timely posting of all month end related journals including, but not limited to, accruals and prepayments, bad debt provision, rent adjustments etc.
- Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
- Review monthly bank reconciliations.
- Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns.
- Prepare monthly Cashflow forecasts and variances.
- Manage the Accounts Receivable team and review aged debt on a monthly basis.
- Manage the Accounts Payable team and ensure payments are prepared in line with the Cashflow forecast.
- Budget and overheads control.
- Oversee the payroll process and approve salary payments and amendments to the schedule.
- Implement financial controls and procedures and ensure the finance operations teams adhere to them.
- Implement risk policies to ensure compliance with relevant legislations.
- Align finance policies, such as expenses, with the UK.
- Point of contact for internal and external finance queries, dealing with telephone calls and emails providing general finance advice and general admin support.
- Introduce a culture of continuous improvement into the teams.
- Train, develop and motivate the team members.
- Support on the preparation of budgets and forecasts.
Key Skills and Experience:
- Qualified Wirtschaftsprüfer (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) or local equivalent.
- Highly numerate with excellent analytical and financial modelling skills.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written German and English.
- Previous experience in overseeing a whole finance department or having worked in the various departments.
- Role is full-time, based in Frankfurt with travel to UK.
Standard hours of work are 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday with 1 hour for lunch (40 hours per week). We will consider requests for flexible working, please indicate on your application if you wish to work different hours.
