The Role:

A Senior Data Management Professional (DMP) is a key role within our organization responsible for optimizing our data for clients and improving our data operations. They act as technical leaders setting the strategy for data products, developing interconnected data models, crafting data architectures, ensuring data quality, and using various techniques, including programming and statistical methods, to extract valuable insights from data. They are expected to be problem solvers, effective communicators and versatile at balancing technical expertise with a product-focused approach. This role encompasses various specialty areas, including Data Engineering, Data Product Ownership, Data Modeling & Data Quality and requires a solid background in data management.

As a member of our News Indexing team based in Princeton, you will be responsible for automated classification of the world's most important financial and economic news. Our aim is to further entrench Bloomberg as the leader in the financial news market. We use proprietary and open-source software to automatically retrieve, parse, organize and tag news from social media sites, news feeds, web sites and other sources that run on the Bloomberg Professional Service. We also build and maintain our complex taxonomy of classification tags according to our clients’ needs. Our work is not theoretical or hyper-specific – it is practical and impactful.

We’ll trust you to:

• Analyze and propose improvements to the annotation pipeline and build infrastructure to make those solutions come to life
• Work across numerous groups in Product, Engineering, and Data to build a pipeline that will deliver high-quality annotations to train NLP Models
• Apply problem-solving and critical thinking, with a focus on innovation and continuous improvement to create pipelines to track the performance of the news classification taggers
• Incorporate machine learning approaches and statistical methods to detect anomalies, drive quality initiatives, generate insights and extract metadata to improve areas such as accuracy, completeness, consistency, and reliability
• Use specialized software in order to build hierarchical rules that automatically classify Bloomberg and third-party news
• Understand customer needs and markets to ensure our data sets are fit-for-purpose and to develop data product strategies
• Balance the best of technical and product knowledge to craft solutions for customers

You’ll need to have:

• A BA/BS degree or higher degree preferably in a STEM subject area (e.g Computer Science, Mathematics or Engineering), Finance and Economics, or relevant data technology field or quantitative background
• 4+ years experience using technical skills such as programming, data modeling and statistical methods to solve problems
• Project management skills and ability to prioritize and adapt to tasks accordingly
• Collaboration skills to work across departments and with global teams
• Demonstrated capability in data management, data processing, data analysis, and associated tools and technologies
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

We’d love to see:

• Previous work, internship and/or academic experience in news classification, data analysis, financial market research and/or information technology
• A passion and curiosity about news, financial and economic data with the aspiration to work in the financial/fintech services industry
• Experience implementing high volume, low-latency ETL pipelines
