Vacancy at the German Jordanian University in Amman, Jordan

The German Jordanian University (GJU) is a public Jordanian university that is based on the model of German Universities of Applied Sciences. It was established in 2005 upon an agreement between the German and Jordanian governments. At present, almost 5,000 students are enrolled at GJU. All GJU bachelor students spend one year of their studies in Germany, for which they receive professional, linguistic and cultural preparation in the first three years. The "German Dimension" therefore plays a central role in all bachelor programs of GJU.

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) supports GJU within the framework of the programme "Transnational Education - Promoting Binational Higher Education". On the German side, Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences leads this DAAD funded project in Germany. It has established a Project Office, which works closely with GJU.

At the German Jordanian University in Amman, the following position is to be filled as soon as possible:

Deputy Head of the "International Affairs Department" IAD

• Deputy head of the International Affairs Department (IAD; 17 employees); serving as Head of Section(s) and Acting Department Head during times of absence of the Director
• Supporting the presidency and the director IAD in the strategic development of the German dimension of GJU
• Facilitation and management of faculty, staff and student mobility between Jordan and Germany in both directions for network meetings and short-term academic exchange
• Coordination and management of aspects related to the German dimension with Deans and Exchange Coordinators of all GJU schools and the project office in Magdeburg under the supervision of the director IAD
• Coordination and management of aspects related to the German dimension with faculty, administrative staff and international offices at German Partner Universities under the supervision of the director IAD
• Participation in university committees
• Conduct other work as requested by the Vice President for International Affairs or the Director IAD

• Bachelor Degree in any field of study; Master degree preferred
• Relevant professional experience at a German university and/or a university abroad or in the context of international organisations of at least 1 year
• Experience in team leadership desirable
• Fluent in German (B2; C2 desirable) and fluent in English (B2 or higher), Arabic is an advantage
• Strong communication and teamwork skills as well as intercultural competence
• Ability to work under pressure and high service orientation
• Willingness to travel abroad on a regular basis
• Willingness to reside in Jordan

The position is to be filled as soon as possible.

Salary:
The position will be remunerated at the GJU with a local salary commensurate with experience and academic qualifications. EU nationals will receive an additional allowance from Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences through their Project Office.
