Job description
You will collaborate with other Application, Systems, Network, Database, Storage, and other infrastructure Engineering teams in delivering innovative solutions in an agile, multifaceted environment. You will be part of the Distributed Team and engage in 24*7 support responsibility within Europe. Being part of a distributed team, you will need to be flexible in your working hours to be in sync globally. You will also be investing yourself into the Salesforce cloud database running on groundbreaking cloud technology & responsible for its reliability.
The ideal candidate would be a Database Administrator with a strong Cloud and DevOps background (eg AWS, GCP) to work in shift patterns.
You will also work with a team that is responsible for the architecture, design, developing and testing the next generation of RDBMS. You will have expertise with database internals, distributed systems, high availability, replication, scalability and performance. You will be participating in Database Reliability responsibility for Salesforce databases infrastructure.
Key to this position is having a beginner's approach, a Can Do Attitude, a focus on technology excellence, and Reliability software development in a secure, high-performance, highly available (99.99%), and fully resilient infrastructure.
Degree or equivalent relevant experience required. Experience will be evaluated based on the core competencies for the role.
Experience as a DBA, Database Engineer, or similar role is required.
Broad and deep knowledge of at least 2 relational databases, including Oracle, PostgreSQL & MySQL.
A cloud certification (such as AWS / GCP cloud certification) is highly desirable.
Experience with related cloud technologies: Docker, Spinnaker, Terraform, Helm, Jenkins, GIT etc. Exposure to zookeeper fundamentals & Kubernetes is highly desirable.
Familiarity with Cloud technologies such as RDS, Redshift, DynamoDB, IAM, EC2, S3, CLI, SDK, or equivalent cloud services.
Exposure and deep understanding of non-relational database technologies as well as preferable Hadoop, HDFS, or equivalent technologies.
Excellent problem-solving skills and Experienced with Production Incident Management / Root Cause analysis.
Experience with important distributed systems service, including supporting Database Production Infrastructure with 24x7x365 support responsibilities.
Exposure to a fast pace environment with large scale cloud infrastructure setup.
Proficiency in coding in UNIX shell and SQL, and at least one procedural language such as Python, Ruby, Java, Perl, and C++.
Have outstanding verbal and written communication skills and excellent speaking-listening-writing skills, attention to detail, proactive self-starter.
Experience with DevOps (CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, EKS, GKE, deployment to AWS).
Exposure to Hadoop Filesystem, Apache Zookeeper/Bookkeeper is a plus.
Knowledge of metrics & monitoring (e.g., Grafana, Splunk, Argus etc.)
Experience in Infrastructure as Code / Automation is advantageous.
Should have worked in Agile methodology.
Solid understanding of all software development process phases, from initial requirements to operational support.
Ability to deliver initiatives & Innovation from conception through completion.
