Leibniz-HKI-12/2024

The Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology ( Leibniz-HKI ) investigates the pathobiology of human-pathogenic fungi and identifies targets for the development of novel natural product-based antibiotics. The department Molecular and Applied Microbiology invites talented and highly qualified candidates to apply for a position as a

Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/div)
in Anti-infective Strategies

for two years initially.

Research areas: (viral) infection biology, nanoparticles, diagnostics and therapy of infectious diseases

This project is part of a Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF)-funded research project that is carried out jointly by the Leibniz-HKI, the University Hospital Jena and other partners. Bringing together various expertise, we aim to establish novel diagnostic and therapeutic concepts against infections and have developed new nanoparticle-based therapeutic approaches to treat viral infections, in particular with SARS-CoV-2.

Aufgaben:
The successful candidate will work on further developing and adapting these approaches for other applications. In addition, she/he will investigate the immune response of the host after this treatment and gain insights into the infection pathophysiology. Qualifikationsprofil:
  • PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, virology, infection biology, or a related discipline; candidates about to obtain their degree are welcome to apply
  • Experimental background in infection biology; experience in tissue infection models and microbial or viral pathogens would be preferable
  • General knowledge of fluorescence microscopy (including CLSM), cell cultivation, and cell-based assays is an advantage
  • General knowledge about nanoparticles and biopolymers
  • Open mindset with the ability to work in an international, interdisciplinary research team
  • The ability to work independently and proactively
  • Excellent communication skills in English
Benefits:

The successful candidate will be hosted in the department Molecular and Applied Microbiology of Prof. Dr. Axel A. Brakhage . The Leibniz-HKI is embedded in the outstanding scientific environment of the Beutenberg Campus providing state-of-the-art research facilities and a highly integrative network of life science groups. We offer a multifaceted, interdisciplinary scientific project with excellent technical facilities and strong scientific collaborations.

The candidate is granted the possibility to get extra skills training at the Graduate Academy of the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena. Salary is paid according to German TV-L (salary agreement for public service employees).
