Business Area Generation is responsible for Vattenfall’s nuclear operations in Sweden and Germany, our hydro operations in Sweden, Finland and Germany, and Services Nordic in Sweden and Finland. BA Generation should be leading in safe and efficient low CO2 emitting hydro and nuclear energy production, on a large scale. We are about 7 400 employees.

Job Description

As from April 1st, 2024, We are looking for a Director of Business Control, BU Hydro Power Plants Germany in BA Generation.

The location of this position is flexible with approx. 20% business travel. There is the possibility of remote working. 

Pumped storage power plants are an important part of the German “Energiewende”, and BU Hydro Power Plants Germany contributes to the value creation for BA Generation and Vattenfall. The flexible character and storage capacity of these hydro power plants will be ensured through continuous improvement processes, a strong contribution to external stakeholder satisfaction as well as a working environment where safety is upfront and the engagement of employees is key. 

To be able to take good business decisions and to drive excellent business performance, it is vital to have an efficient controlling organization which reflects on and contributes to reaching business targets. Business Control Generation is responsible to support the Business Area comprehensively with suitable steering models, business analyses and financial information. To be able to drive Business Planning, coordinate and execute the investment planning process, a strong cooperation with Business area as well as Corporate Finance is necessary. This contributes to a dynamic and diversified working environment.

Vattenfall is now looking for the right person to fill the position as Director of Business Control, Business Unit (BU) Hydro Power Plants Germany within the Business Area Generation, reporting to the Vice President of BU Hydro Power Plants Germany. You will become a member of the BU Hydro Power Plants Germany Management Team. 

As Director of Business Control, BU Hydro Power Plants Germany in BA Generation

you will support the Business Unit Head and Management team with suitable steering models, business analysis and financial information needed to take the right business decisions and to drive excellent business performance.

You have the following key responsibilities:

• Proactively support and challenge the BU management to reach the business objectives
• Analyze business performance, as well as risks and sensitivities, identify improvement opportunities and corrective actions and drive performance
• Steer the Business Planning within the BU including target setting and follow-up and actively coordinate and execute the strategy and investment planning process. Further improve the BU Scorecard, and operational and financial KPI’s 
• Create financial and business performance analysis and reports in line with the requirements of the BU and BA management
• Directly support the project manager of strategic projects and initiatives in financial and budget approval procedures, business-driven decision support including business cases and ad-hoc information and process requests; take responsibility for the project governance processes within the BU and towards BA/ Group
• Act as BU business sponsor for the SAP S4/Hana implementation project in close alignment with SAP key users and Vattenfall’s staff functions
• Closely interact and develop interfaces to BA Generation Business Control and Fleet Management, Accounting, Tax, Subledger, and others
• Lead and further develop the BU Power Plants Germany Business Control team
• Fulfill the legal responsibility as legal Financial Managing Director with additional responsibilities

Qualifications

We are looking for a Director of Business Control, BU Hydro Power Plants Germany in BA Generation who has a relevant University degree or equal and extensive competence and experience as a leader in a large international organisation. Your command of English and German is strong, both verbally and written .

• Independent working style as the direct manager won’t be always on site.
• Experience in the energy industry or Hydro Power Plants Storages specifically in financials and regulation is a strong merit.
