We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Software Project Coordinator in our project. This position is for a specialist to lead the Data Processing and Preservation System (DPPS) of the CTAO. The main purpose of the DPPS is to transform data into science-ready data products that need to be preserved and have a traceable and reproducible provenance. The DPPS team is preparing the first major product release based on existing software prototypes.
In the position of DPPS coordinator, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading all the activities required for an effective implementation, testing, integration, and deployment of the DPPS system. Leading the DPPS Work Package team and working with DPPS sub-systems contributors, the DPPS Assembly, Integration and Verification (AIV) team, and other Computing department experts, the successful candidate will play a key role in the construction of software for one of the largest scientific installations ever built.
Your responsibilities:
- Manage and coordinate the construction of the DPPS, including the Improvement of the detailed DPPS architecture.
- Lead, coordinate and guide the production, testing, and integration of DPPS components by CTAO contributing institutions and CTAO personnel.
- Oversee the acceptance testing of the DPPS elements and the integration of DPPS with other CTAO elements, in close collaboration with the CTAO Software Coordinators and systems engineering team members.
- Develop staging and deployment scenarios for the DPPS.
- Coordinate the deployment and commissioning of the DPPS software in the CTAO data centers.
- Organize the DPPS software maintenance strategy for the CTAO lifetime.
- Report regularly on the progress of the DPPS implementation work to the CTAO Computing Coordinator.
Your skills:
- Completed higher education in computer science, computer engineering, information technology, physics, mathematics, or equivalent knowledge.
- At least five years of technical work experience or a combination of education and relevant experience. At least three years of experience coordinating a software team.
- Experience with data processing, workload management, and data management systems.
- Expert in all aspects of the software lifecycle: management, requirements, architecture, design, code, test, integration, deployment, and maintenance.
- Deep understanding of information technology approaches, applications (which may include scientific applications), tools, and methodologies, as well as a broad background in a variety of technology platforms.
- In-depth understanding of at least one of the following programming languages: C++ or Python and a good command of object-oriented design principles and design patterns.
- Familiarity with software maintenance activities is considered an asset.
- Familiarity with formal software requirements, engineering and architecture specification practices will be considered a plus. Familiarity with UML and/or SysML will be considered an asset.
- Ability to work effectively as a team player in an international, multi-cultural, distributed, and complex project environment.
- Ability to understand and communicate complex technical and scientific information
- Excellent writing and organizational skills with an eye for detail, precision, and consistency.
- Excellent communication skills and a command of English are essential.
Reports to: CTAO Computing Coordinator

Your duty station: CTAO Science Data Management Center in Zeuthen (Germany) with visits to the CTAO Headquarters in Bologna (Italy) and contributor sites.
