Fulltime position, Start-date: 01.06.2024 Description The Laboratory for Design of Microsystems is looking for an Assistant Professor (Akadem. Rat *Rätin auf Zeit) and group manager “Energy-autonomous Embedded Sensor Systems” with a doctorate and a qualification in the fields of electrical engineering, microelectronics or microsystems technology to start from June 01, 2024 or earlier . In the field of energy-autonomous embedded sensor systems , the focus is on the research and development of energy-efficient hardware and software for embedded sensor systems as well as on entire sensor systems, some of which are operated using energy harvesting. This topic offers excellent development prospects for young scientists for their own research and is already today of great importance for various future topics in academia and industry, such as climate change, personalized medicine or the Internet of Things. Previous and actual projects at the laboratory focus on environmental sensing, medical technology and the development of wearables, for example. Multidisciplinary cooperation happens e.g. with participation in the German SFB project ECOSENSE and the excellence cluster livMatS. We are looking for candidates with a broad education in one or more of the above-mentioned disciplines that match the subject areas of this call. A qualified doctorate and fulfilment of the requirements under German civil service law are required. Further requirements include the willingness for developing an own research profile with international visibility, for project acquisition and management in a national and international environment, for the build-up and running of a research team of typically 5 PhD students and for an active participation in university self-administration. Tasks include teaching to the extent of four ouers per week (4 SWS). The possibility of habilitation is given in accordance with the habilitation regulations of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Freiburg. This position is initially limited to three years with the possibility of renewal up to a total of six years, given a success within the tasks described above.
