The Professorship for Design and Operation of Public Rail Transport System is seeking a student assistant / Tutor. Your responsibilities will include assisting as a tutor in the Rail Traffic Lab, as well as contributing to research projects and teaching administration at the Chair. The Professorship for Planning and Operation of Public Rail Transport Systems was newly created at TU Munich in September 2023. The focus of the research group is to develop and implement innovative methods for design and optimized control of efficient and user-friendly rail transportation systems. In our research we deal with questions in network and traffic planning, capacity analysis, as well as traffic management. We are looking for people who are interested in working towards strengthening rail transportation as the backbone of our mobility systems, and would like to contribute to building up our newly established research group at TU Munich.

Your responsibilities

• Assisting as a tutor (student supervision / project assistance) in the Rail Traffic Lab (a computer lab on Rail Traffic Planning)

• Assisting in setting up and evaluating the problems in the Rail Traffic Lab

• Teaching organization (coordinating guest lectures, course materials, etc.) in the Railway Systems Seminar

• Contributing to current research projects in Traffic Planning and Capacity Management at the Chair

Your profile

• Ability to work independently an thoroughly, and to quickly adapt to new problem settings

• Good programming skills in Python

• Communication and organizational skills

• Good command of English, preferably also German

• Prior knowledge in railway engineering and railway operations are an asset, but not mandatory
