The institute of Microbiology seeks to fill the position of a
Biological-Technical Assistant
- as part of a maternity and parental leave replacement – full-time (100% / 40 hours per week), probably fixed-term until 31.07.2025.
A biological-technical assistant supporting the microbiological wet lab activities of our group. In coordination with the lab manager, Dr. Anne Busch, you will be responsible for the lab routines and services that are needed to maintain the day-to-day function of the lab. In addition, you will have the chance to further develop your own skills by being involved in state-of-the-art research projects.
Your responsibilities:
- Assist the lab manager in running the microbiology wet lab
- Foster the development of lab routines and maintenance of an S2 Lab
- Oversee, prepare and perform microbiological experiments such as isolation, growth curves, as well as in vitro experiments such as PCR, plasmid preps, cloning and introduction of point mutation
- Oversee, prepare and manage next generation sequencing experiments
- Ensure the supply of consumables
- Participate in diverse research projects
- Oversee waste disposal for the group, help with safety protocols and/or documentation
Your profile:
- A successfully completed qualification as biological-technical assistant or an equivalent degree
- Experience in standard microbiological techniques and lab routines. S2 Lab experience is advantageous but not essential
- Motivation for taking responsibility for both day-by-day lab services and research-related work
- Enthusiasm for lab organization
- Experience in sequencing techniques is advantageous
- Experience with genetic manipulation is advantageous
- Ability to work in a team and to interact with people from diverse nationalities and scientific backgrounds
- Excellent communication skills and ability to contribute to a friendly and collaborative working environment
- Language skills in both English and German are highly advantageous

The position is offered as a fixed-term position to cover the period of maternity and parental leave.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week).
In principle, the job is also suitable for part-time employment. The extent to which a part-time request can be granted, in particular with regard to the location and scope of the part-time work, will be assessed on the basis of the needs of the service.
