We are looking for a highly qualified scientist in the field of industrial sensing. You will collaborate with an international and interdisciplinary team of highly motivated scientists in the fascinating boundary between research, development, and business-relevant applications.

Your responsibilities
- You conduct applied research in sensor technologies for industrial sensor from all of ABB´s Business areas.
- You identify technology trends in academia, industry and strategic markets and evaluate their relevance for current and future ABB products.
- You initiate, contribute to and lead research projects in close collaboration with ABB´s internal divisions.
- You build proof-of-concepts and prototypes and support in their deployment at pilot installations at ABB end-customer sites.
- You collaborate with other teams in ABB Research and ABB’s international divisions, external partners, and academia.
- You help protect innovation by securing intellectual property and publishing in scientific conferences.
- You present your work to technical experts and management audiences inside and outside ABB, including renowned scientific conferences and trade fairs.
Your background
- You hold a Ph.D. degree (or master’s degree with professional experience) in physics or related field.
- You have in-depth expertise applying first principle models, signal processing and data analysis for sensing applications.
- You have hands-on experience working with lean hardware prototypes and using software packages such as Python, LabView and related software.
- Knowledge of non-invasive sensing approaches, e.g., vibration, acoustics, imaging, radar is beneficial.
- Experience in agile project management is a plus.
- Cross-cultural communication and networking skills.
- Proficient English skills are mandatory; additional German skills are beneficial.
