Principal Research Engineer – Data and AI Systems (m/f/d)
Your mission
- As a member of our Huawei Cloud R&D team, drive the seeding and development of the next-generation Knowledge Lake in Huawei Cloud
- Be responsible for the research, development, design, testing, and validation of the future Knowledge Lake in the advent of Large-language models (LLMs), embedding-based deep learning (EmbDL), cloud-native vector databases, and cloud-native relational database and big data management systems and their intersection with emerging cloud technologies such as memory fabrics and heterogenous compute units
- Define software requirements and guide the entire prototyping and agile software end-to-end life-cycle, make decisions to realize the key technical solutions, and participate and provide leadership to the team
- Drive the IP and academic cooperation strategy, along with formulating a technology roadmap for a competitive and cutting-edge product portfolio
Your areas of expertise
- BSc/Master in computer science or other related disciplines
- Deep understanding of LLM and EmbDL training and inference, including architecture, requirements of compute, memory, storage, and network, and also system-level deployment knowledge
- Profound understanding of deep learning parallelization techniques (e.g., data, tensor, pipeline) and optimization techniques (e.g., batching, offloading, distillation, quantization, sparsification)
- Deep understanding of vector database, relational database, and big data management systems, including architecture, requirements of compute, memory, storage, and network, and also system-level deployment knowledge
- Experience with deep learning platforms, such as Tensorflow, Pytorch, or ONNX Runtime
- Experienced with GPU kernel programming in the context of deep learning
- Familiar with cloud computing platforms, such as Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform
- Knowledge of cloud storage systems such as Blob Storage (e.g., Amazon S3, Azure Blob Storage), Key-value Storage (e.g., Amazon Dynamo, Google Spanner, Google Bigtable), Caching Storage (e.g., Amazon ElastiCache, Azure Redis Cache), or File-system Storage (e.g., Amazon Elastic File System, Azure Files)
- Familiar with emerging cloud computing technologies such as memory fabrics (e.g., CXL, NVLink) and heterogenous accelerators (e.g., GPUs, TPUs)
- Fluent in written and spoken English
