We are seeking a talented and visionary Senior Naval Architect to join our dynamic team and spearhead the design and development of our groundbreaking wind-powered ship class. As the Lead Naval Architect, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of maritime transportation and driving our vision for a greener, more sustainable world.
Your tasks - Lead the design, development and optimization of our innovative wind-powered ship class, ensuring it meets performance, safety, regulatory and sustainability objectives.
- Conduct comprehensive analyses, simulations, and feasibility studies to assess the ship's hydrodynamics, structural integrity, and performance.
- Oversee the creation of detailed design plans, specifications, and blueprints.
- Collaborate closely with a cross-functional team of engineers, designers, and researchers to drive the ship's concept from ideation to series production in the long run.
- Support the decision-making process for strategic make-or-buy decisions.
- Steer and coordinate external project stakeholders during the development process.
- Collaborate with external partners, vendors, and regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Play a critical role in securing funding and partnerships by contributing to grant applications, proposals, and technical presentations.
Your profile
- Master’s degree in Naval Architecture, Ship Design, Marine Engineering or related field
- Proven experience (8+ years) in naval architecture, with a strong background in ship design and development. Strong network to shipyards and design offices are a plus.
- Holistic understanding of different domains of naval architecture (overview of different departments: structural, outfitting, propulsion)
- Prior work experience with classification societies and flag states and associated rule books.
- Demonstrated experience in innovative ship design projects (e.g. wind technology, hydrofoil technology)
- Strong knowledge of hydrofoils is a massive plus.
- A track record of successfully driving engineering projects from conception to completion with a strong focus on KPI´s and target metrics.
- Expertise in CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks), expertise in FEM/CFD simulation is a plus.
- Strong leadership and project management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with interest in interdisciplinary collaboration in a young and dedicated team.
- Motivated, independent and reliable way of working.
- Passion for sustainability and environmental responsibility.
- Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced startup environment.
- Proficient German skills are a plus.

We are CargoKite , a Munich-based early-stage startup developing a new, wind-powered ship class for oversea transportation of freight. We are a spin-off from the Technical University of Munich and aim to decarbonize global shipping. With our high-tech sailing ship we help commercial shipping companies to reduce operating costs, cut emissions by 100% and enable a faster and more customizable shipping servic e. After recently closing out seed funding round with international top-tier investors from the US and Europe, we are now looking to grow our world-class crew!
