As a member of the Helmholtz Association, we aim to tackle the grand societal challenges of our time and conduct research into the possibilities of a digitized society, a climate-friendly energy system, and a resource-efficient economy. Work together with around 7,250 employees in one of Europe’s biggest research centres and help us to shape change!

Are you interested in improving the outcome of scientific experiments? Did you do scattering experiments already, or would you learn about it? Do you enjoy working together with multidisciplinary experts? Then you might be the right fit for a position in a joint European project Research Infrastructure Access in NAnoscience & nanotechnology (RIANA)! The Jülich Centre for Neutron Science - Neutron Methods (JCNS-4) operates at the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Zentrum (MLZ) in Garching near Munich a suite of high-performance neutron scattering instruments which allow performing cutting-edge research which contributes substantially to solving the grand challenges of science, society, and industry!

We are looking to recruit a

Industrial and scientific partners with high specialization in nanoscience and nanotechnology often do not employ the full breadth of techniques to obtain the optimal output for their research. RIANA connects a wide range of European methodological scientists and provides openly support and conduction of experiments within all partners. JCNS is specialized on (neutron) scattering experiments and aims at directing projects to the best neutron instruments within the League of European Neutron Sources (LENS). For this task we need you as a specialist who can bring high-level science to world-leading instruments. Your tasks in detail:

  • Working closely with the RIANA core team to support networking between all RIANA partners and European Neutron Sources (LENS)
  • Interacting with other physics-related RIANA partners to make synergies operable
  • Presenting the consortium and networking groups at workshops, conferences, in the public
  • Presenting research results at scientific meetings, conferences, and as scientific papers
  • Supporting the different RIANA working groups in terms of information, organization, cooperation, and project management
Qualifikationsprofil:
  • Master’s and/or PhD degree in physics, chemistry, engineering, materials science, or a related field
  • Relevant experience in experimental work and analysis of experimental data
  • Experience in neutron scattering experiments is mandatory
  • Competence to communicate and collaborate with scientists, even being from different science areas
  • Self-motivated personality with the ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team environment on scientifically challenging problems
  • Very good command of written and spoken English (possibly German, too)
