JOB SUMMARY:
The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for hardware product development for automotive video systems for Public Safety Industry. The Mechanical Engineer will participate in new product development of electronic systems, design customized mounting hardware and provide customer & manufacturing support.
- Understand and document the requirements for high level hardware.
- Generate and execute hardware development and verification plans including hardware schedules, design reviews, troubleshoot hardware & manufacturing issues.
- Ensure compliance to quality processes as defined in the product development plan.
- Assist factory processes (i.e. NPI and Manufacturing Test).
- Work with Product Development and Manufacturing partners to analyze, identify and implement design requirements.
- Identify the core mechanical requirements of a project and then envision the full mechanical portion of the system.
- Work closely with a multidisciplinary team of project managers, engineers, and designers to complete both product development and research tasks in a variety of industries and market segments.
- Be responsible for system integration and commercial release validation activities.
- Ensure the Interaction with test labs for regulatory compliance.
- Assist customers on troubleshooting field issues.
- Support Service and installations team to resolve field issues as they arise.
- Able to successfully manage and deliver on multiple tasks with competing priorities.
- Lead or contribute to informal and formal design reviews.
Salary Range:
$75,000K - $90,000K
REQUIREMENTS
- Post-secondary degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Min 3 years of mechanical design experience
- Experience in electronic enclosure and thermal design.
- Experience with design of mounting brackets in automotive vehicles.
- Basic Electrical experience.
- Experienced in design for compliance to Industrial & Automotive standards.
- Experienced in the design of battery powered portable devices.
- Strong hands-on skills to setup and conduct design verification tests.
- Strong mechanical design and testing experience in the automotive industry.
- Knowledge of mechanical prototyping, fabrication, and finishing techniques for plastics, metals and non-metals, including industry best practices.
- Proficiency in using SolidWorks to design components and assemblies, and generate detailed drawings for fabrication, assembly and 3D printing.
- Experience sourcing components according to design requirements
- Excellent English oral and written communication and documentation skills
- Demonstrated ability to develop creative solutions to meet cost and functional requirements.
- Proven ability to work to tight time schedules and commitments for deliverables; determine the scope of work and plan effectively to meet those commitments.
- Ability to work independently, making sound decisions with a focus on the goal.
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with dealing with OEMs, outside vendors and fabrication shops.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently while exercising initiative, flexibility and good judgement.
