Hatfield Consultants is seeking an Environmental Information Specialist to support our Environmental Monitoring and Assessment (EMA) Group and growing Environmental Data Analytics team in Vancouver. Hatfield provides customized data analytics and information management support to our diverse Canadian and global portfolio of projects in environmental management and community development. As an Environmental Information Specialist, you will provide data analytics, tool development, and information management expertise on a wide variety of environmental projects. The ideal candidate will be comfortable conducting a wide variety of data-driven activities, including developing advanced R tools for environmental data analysis, developing data management plans, working with technical staff to interpret project data, and developing documentation. This position has considerable scope for career development and advancement, and over time, you will support and lead the training of colleagues in reproducible data science. Strong communication skills and the ability to understand the unique technical and data-communications needs for a wide range of environmental projects and sectors is important in this position.Support the planning, development, and expansion of in-house data analytics tools and processes used by Hatfield’s Environmental Monitoring and Assessment Group.
Synthesize functional needs from multiple projects into commonly used workflows. Create and update R packages and R Shiny Apps used by staff scientists that support these common workflows.
Lead or support data management and data analysis components of assigned projects.
Provide technical support for Hatfield staff and clients using our in-house environmental data management systems, especially Hatfield’s EnviroData () and Aquarius time series systems.
Develop and update R-based microservices for our web-based environmental data management software "EnviroData". This includes expanding the functionality of the EnviroDataR package ().
Support the development of training resources and documentation. Provide support and/or guidance to project teams on data-driven science processes and tools.
Perform automated data quality assurance/quality control (QAQC) checks for project datasets and undertake data screening, analysis, calculations, and interpretation, and develop project specific tools to complete these tasks.
Contribute to proposal and project management. Assigned tasks may include identification of business opportunities, development of proposed approaches and cost estimates for data analytics-related scopes, provision of written content, and coordination of tasks and budget management.
Experience with environmental monitoring projects and the analysis of associated datasets (such as water quantity, water quality, climate, and biological datasets).
Advanced knowledge of R, including R Package development. Other data management and visualization tools (e.g. Aquarius, Shiny Apps, PowerBI) are an advantage.
BSc or higher in a natural resource management, science, or engineering field with some prior coursework, training, and/or experience related to statistics, data science, computer science, and water quality.

Salary $60k-$115k. Actual salary offered will be commensurate with education, experience and internal parity.
