Honda Financial Services (HFS) Accounting Department is looking to hire a passionate and highly motivated Senior Analyst, Accounting. The incumbent works within HFS Corporate Accounting department, is primarily responsible for performing and reviewing month-end close activities including but not limited to, preparing journal entries; variance analysis; preparing & presenting close meeting materials to Executives; prepare quarterly budgets for assigned items; prepare reports for financial reporting & ad hoc analysis; submit related quarterly schedules and MD&A comments in a timely and accurate manner to parent company American Honda Finance Corporation (AHFC), for its filing with Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC); Other responsibilities include analyze monthly G & A accruals for various cost centers, and provide operational support to Accounts Payable team as assigned.
In this highly collaborative role, you will have excellent interpersonal communication and analytical skills, apply your knowledge of accounting principles and internal controls, and ensure accounting records and internal controls are maintained and in compliance with company policies, IFRS and US GAAP.
This is a permanent position based in Markham, Ontario location. It will be a mix of working on site and remotely - offering the best of both worlds! You will enjoy visibility to senior leadership and other stakeholders as you work closely within accounting and others, while playing a key role in the analysis, presentation and disseminating information with other stakeholders.
PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare monthly journal entries for credit loss accounting, G & A accruals & other assigned items.
- Review journal entries completed by other team members to support accurate financial reporting.
- Analyze various financial reports for management, review plan versus actual variance analysis for credit loss and G & A accruals to support month-end close and financial reporting process.
- Ensure accounting transactions are in compliance with internal control principles & company operating policies.
- Participate & co-ordinate accounting month end close process with various teams.
- Monitor, review and control balance sheet account balances for accuracy, including monthly GL account reconciliations for assigned accounts.
- Participate in the accounting close process, financial statements preparation and reporting analysis.
- Prepare various reports, footnote schedules and other disclosures for quarterly SEC filings and IFRS stand-alone financial statements.
- Assist Accounting Manager as needed with Accounts Payable tasks including supporting other cross-functional members.
- Closely interact with internal & external auditors, internal stakeholders, and other Honda companies.
- Prepare, review & submit Government of Canada surveys.
- Perform UAT of accounting systems & participate in ad-hoc projects as assigned.
- Identify, initiate, and execute continuous process improvements.
POSITION PROFILE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- 5 or more years of accounting and financial reporting and analysis experience an asset.
- BCom/BA/BS in Accounting, Finance
- Professional Accounting designation with at least 3 years post qualification work experience (CPA, MBA etc.)
- Sound understanding of fundamental accounting principles with solid experience in credit loss accounting under both US GAAP and IFRS Accounting Standards.
- Demonstrate high ethics & integrity in every business conduct.
- Quick learner, excellent analytic and presentation skills
- Recommend improvements to policies & procedures.
- Basic working knowledge of PeopleSoft software, knowledge of Business Objects an asset.
- Proficiency with the MS Office Suite: Excel, PowerPoint.
- Open & effective communication at all levels of the organization.
