Job description
Summary
We are seeking a mechanically inclined Groundskeeper to oversee the maintenance and upkeep of our 400-acre private estate located in the beautiful Caledon-The Grange area. The ideal candidate will have a hands-on approach to managing the landscape and mechanical systems of the estate, ensuring pristine conditions all year round.
Key responsibilities, but not limited to
- Operate and maintain a variety of machinery and motorized equipment, including but not limited to tractors, mowers, and snow removal equipment.
- Perform routine and seasonal maintenance on landscaped grounds, ensuring aesthetic appeal and health of the gardens and lawns.
- Manage snow removal effectively to ensure all pathways and access roads are clear and safe during winter months.
- Recruit, hire, and supervise a team of seasonal maintenance staff, providing training and support as needed.
- Conduct regular inspections of complex mechanical systems on the estate, such as generators, boilers, water softeners, and irrigation systems.
- Diagnose issues and perform basic repairs or maintenance; recognize when specialized maintenance is needed and coordinate with appropriate contractors for timely resolution.
- Maintain records of maintenance schedules, repairs, and contractor engagements.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and standards in the operation of equipment and performance of duties.
Qualifications and requirements
- Proven mechanical aptitude with the ability to operate, troubleshoot, and maintain a range of machinery and equipment.
- Experience in landscaping and grounds maintenance.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and perform physical activities required by the job.
- Must be flexible with work hours.
- Strong leadership skills with experience in supervising and training staff.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to identify problems with mechanical systems and take initiative in resolving them.
- Good communication skills for coordinating with contractors and managing staff.
- A valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Must have a Ontario Pesticide Training and Certification (OPT&C).
