Job Summary
Reporting into the Deputy Chief/Manager, Program Development and Quality Improvement, the Public Safety Education Coordinator will be responsible for the management, coordination, conduction and oversee internal and external events and/or training for the division, the Region and the public.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Supports and promotes Divisional and Departmental commitments to public education on PAD, CPR & Healthy Heart Lifestyles and Injury Prevention programs to members of the public as well as Regional staff through the coordination of training, public awareness and marketing, in collaboration with the Region’s Health Promotion and Communications program.
- Co-ordinates PAD, CPR & Healthy Heart Lifestyles and Injury Prevention initiatives with community stakeholders providing expertise to working groups.
- Liaises with the various AED vendors active in the industry on the available marketed products to assist purchasing in the development of RFPs and RFQs.
- Co-ordinates the training of AED, CPR & Healthy Heart Lifestyles and Injury Prevention program instructors for the purpose of program delivery. This includes programs such as; Risk Watch and Car Seat Inspections.
- Assumes a lead role in the coordination and deployment of the PAD program in communities that request this level of assistance from the region.
- Provides representation on joint Municipal PAD and CPR committees as appropriately indicated.
- Contributes in the development of effective measurement strategies of the program(s) in collaboration with the Health Department staff.
- Co-ordinates the collection and analysis of data regarding PAD, CPR & Healthy Heart Lifestyles and Injury Prevention training courses, equipment and incidents of PAD deployment in the community for evaluation purposes.
- Co-ordinates Critical Incident Stress counseling and support for related programs.
- Provides regular interim and annual reports on the program(s) status to management, and other regional divisions or external organizations, as indicated.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in Health Sciences/studies with an emphasis on anatomy and physiology would be an asset.
- Expertise on the current and historical progression of Public Access Defibrillation (PAD) and CPR, including comprehensive knowledge of the physical mechanics of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
- Knowledge and experience in the area of injury prevention programs.
- Certification as a CPR and AED Instructor by a training agency recognized by the WSIB in Ontario under regulation 1101 is required.
- Certificate level program or equivalent in the strategies of; health promotion and communications, critical incident stress management, marketing, sales, adult education and fundraising.
- Excellent presentation, communication and written skills.
- Advanced computer skills for program development, including database management.
- Must be able to work effectively with the entire healthcare team.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

- Travel may be required within Halton Region; incumbent will be responsible to provide their own transportation.
- Will require some evening and weekend work.

- The incumbent will be required to provide a copy of their "G" class driver’s license by their first day of employment.
- The incumbent will be required to drive a Regional vehicle and will be required to provide a copy of their "F" class driver's license at time of offer, or within six (6) months of the incumbent's start date.
