Our client is an industry leading M&E Consulting Engineering firm with a strong national presence, as well as a deep history of delivering full scale Mechanical and Electrical Engineering services to clients within the commercial, institutional, residential, industrial, and healthcare building sectors. They are currently seeking a talented Mechanical Engineer or Designer – Project Lead to join their North York office.
Your new role
The Project Lead The Mechanical Project Lead is responsible for managing projects and the day-to-day activities within the project group including all technical, scheduling and project management issues.
Responsibilities
- Work to develop strong, ongoing relationships with clients, building operators, contractors and other members of the Design Team.
- Work enthusiastically with the Group to accomplish common objectives.
- Create Proposals and Fee Letters as requested by the Principal.
- Keep Group Lead apprised of activities.
- Consult and negotiate with clients to prepare specifications, explain proposals and present engineering reports and findings on small projects.
- Lead by example, following proper procedures.
- Inform Group members of any upcoming scheduling issues.
- Participate in training courses and show initiative for professional development.
- Provide insightful and enthusiastic assistance to other staff.
- Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the activities of their team.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures and design standards.
- Ensure that all projects within the Group are staying on track and on schedule.
- Assign, co-ordinate and review the technical work of the project teams.
- Participate directly in the design, development and inspection of technical projects or in the engineering work of the department. Schedule workload appropriately, maximizing productive time.
- Attend and participate in weekly Base Building Mechanical meetings if called upon by Principal.
- Plan and manage projects, and prepare material, cost and timing estimates, reports and design specifications for machinery and systems.
- Supervise technicians, technologists and other engineers and review and approve designs, calculations and cost estimates.
What you'll need to succeed
- Mechanical Engineering Degree or College Diploma
- 3-5+ years of design engineering experience relevant to HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection for building projects
- Strong design skills with meticulous attention to detail
- Effective skills in project management operations, budgeting, business process and productivity improvements
- Proven technical background
- Effective communication and presentation skills
- Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD or REVIT
