Job Description
Facility Operator 3 - Recreation and Facilities (April 15 – November 15)
(Reporting to the Director of Community Services)
- Support and the Senior Operator(s) in the day-to-day operations of lawn maintenance operations.
- Maintains cemetery grounds, playing fields and parks.
- Provides minor construction, repair, security and maintenance services for municipal property and facilities in accordance with provincial legislation, and Council policy and direction.
- Works with community groups to set up, break down at municipal facilities for municipal events and public rentals.
- Liaise with public regarding municipal facilities operations.
- Responsible for ensuring Municipal By-laws (i.e.no smoking) and regulations governing the sale of alcohol are followed.
Public Works Operator 3 – Infrastructure and Operations Department – Public Works (November 16 – April 14)
(Reporting to the Public Works Manager or designate)
- Operate heavy equipment, including but not limited to: dump truck, backhoe, loader and grader
- Operate dump truck with snow/sander equipment.
- Perform various road maintenance tasks such as grass cutting, sidewalk cutting, ditching work, and patching of damaged road surfaces.
- Perform road maintenance duties by removing litter, stones, trees and other debris from roadways, bridges, and other areas.
- Participate in works site safety tasks, including setting up of barricades, flagging to ensure safety zone, installation of safety signs, road signs, and signal equipment.
- Perform cemetery duties as assigned.
- Reports deficiencies in road related maters.
- Maintain an inventory of municipal equipment and perform light maintenance and cleaning.
- Applicable to each department:
- Maintains effective safety standards as they relate to both the public and fellow employees. Adherence to and understanding of current and new applicable legislated requirements including WHMIS and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Understand the Municipalities Health and Safety policies and procedures.
- Participate in regular performance reviews with the Director/Manager and identify personal and professional training and development needs.
- Ensure the confidentiality of all information in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
- Perform other duties as required.
Education RequirementSecondary School DiplomaExperience Requirement
Experience
- Experience involving road maintenance.
- Experience with maintaining buildings, parks, playfield maintenance.
- Physically capable of carrying out the essential duties of the job.
- Vulnerable Sector Check (Successful VSC)
- Must possess and maintain a DZ licence (Driver's Abstract Required)
Knowledge/Skill/Ability
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Familiarity with equipment and materials.
- Ability to read operating manuals, schedules, and construction plans.
- Ability to safely and effectively operate tools, equipment and machinery used by both the departments including, but not limited to: grass cutting equipment, snow removal equipment, tractors, front end loader, mower, line trimmer, floor scrubbers, pick up truck and hand tools.
- Ability to deal with the public with diplomacy and tact.
- Ability to follow through with assigned tasks, to ask questions and ensure the at the tasks are completed in an effective, timely and efficient manner, based on policy and supervisory direction.
- Ability to regularly lift more than 25 kg.
