POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Supervisor, safely operate conventional and/or specialized/on-demand transit vehicles in accordance with established routes and schedules with a varying number of stops. Provides courteous service and responds to customer enquiries concerning transit information.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides excellent customer service and public relations to transit customers and the general public.
  2. Operates City buses and/or vans and transports passengers safely according to Thunder Bay Transit and Lift+ routes, schedules and procedures.
  3. Transports and assists passengers with accessibility needs, which under the specialized service program may include escorting/providing assistance to passengers door-to-door and maneuvering & securing mobility devices such as wheelchairs.
  4. Responsible for collecting fares, ensuring the safety of all passengers and documenting all incidents.
  5. Issues properly validated transfers and checks the validity of all transfers and passes.
  6. Responds to customer inquiries concerning transit services; provides information and assists passengers in a courteous manner.
  7. Provides assistance to passengers with accessibility needs and language barriers, and deals with other passenger issues as per Transit policies and procedures.
  8. Checks and reports on condition of buses before leaving depot and at such other times as may be designated or required.
  9. Enters information as to time, mileage, defects, and other pertinent information on Daily Bus Report.
  10. Surrenders vehicle to relieving operator, or drives to depot at the end of run.
  11. Completes accident or incident reports, passenger counts, or other reports as required.
  12. Receives, reports, and forwards "lost and found" articles to depot.
  13. Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

Operator wage increases progress as follows:

 

Training Rate $16.55(Note: Operator training is approximately 6 weeks in duration only)

1st 6 months $23.58

2nd 6 months $26.53

Thereafter $29.48
