TYPE OF HIRING
Regular full-time position.
WORK SCHEDULE
35 hours per week from Monday to Friday
8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (may include evening and weekends to meet the needs of the department)
SALARY RANGE
$23.82 to $30.82 per hour
SUMMARY
Under the authority of the Coordinator of Student Services, the principal and customary work of the employee in this employment class consists in organizing social, cultural and sports activities of all types mainly for groups, either as a complement to certain educational programs or as student recreation. In doing so, the candidate takes into consideration the needs of the groups and the policies that have been established by the College.
In the area of student-athlete’s success, he/she participates in the organization of a physical and academic activity plan for the academic success support of our Hurricanes athletic program.
DUTIES
Including, but not limited to:
GENERAL
- Prepares and organizes social, cultural and intramural sports programs or activities.
- Conducts surveys and gathers information on the effectiveness of implemented programs, feedback and ideas for the future.
- Chooses the activities, implements and evaluates them based on student’s interests.
- Explains the nature, objectives and regulations regarding activities; identifies special situations, corrects them or reports them to the Coordinator of Student Services.
- Uses promotional techniques in order to assist groups in organizing and undertaking their activities.
- May be responsible for information: publicity committee, bulletins, posters, announcements through information media.
- Continually develops new and innovative ideas to improve student life, physical activity and enjoyment at Heritage.
- Works with other departments to update the website with the latest, most important and pertinent information possible on activities, collegiate teams, intramurals, etc.
- Maintains regularly an up-to-date inventory of all equipment used in his/her sector of activities.
- May be asked to represent the College on in-house committees or committees outside the College.
- If necessary, performs any other related duties.
SOCIAL, CULTURAL AND SPORTS
- Participates in the planning and organization of various student life activities and college events (i.e.: Hema Québec Blood Drive, orientation for new students, Black History Month, multicultural exhibitions, job fairs, etc.
- In collaboration with other services, organizes academic study hall sessions for student athletes.
- Organizes physical training sessions for student athletes.
COLLEGIATE SPORTS
- Participates in the management of collegiate teams; prepares, modifies and posts game and practice schedules; responsible for the promotion and publicity of sporting events.
- Participates in the choice of equipment and materials (uniform and others) which the College places at the disposal of groups and, in particular, considers the quality and cost of such equipment and makes appropriate recommendations to the Coordinator of Student Services.
- Participates in the organization and planning of home and away collegiate games.
- Serves as a link between the collegiate players, the coaches and the College.
- Participates in the organization of RSEQ provincial and regional meeting.
- Organizes team photos and updates the photo gallery and team plaques.
- Act as the on-site person for some Varsity games during the evening and the weekend.
AWARDS AND GRADUATION CEREMONY
- Prepares athletic awards information.
- Participates in the organization of the award evening and graduation ceremony.
FITNESS CENTRE
- Assists in the interviewing, the hiring and the coordination of all Fitness Centre staff.
- Assists the overseeing training of all staff involved in the Fitness Centre.
- Creates work schedules to maintain optimum Fitness Centre viability.
- Ensures Fitness Centre safety standards are in place and adhered to, ensures cleanliness and sanitation of the facility, works in conjunction with training and maintenance personnel.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have a diploma of collegial studies (DEC) in an appropriate specialty or a diploma or attestation of studies whose equivalence is recognized by the competent authority.
- Fluency in English (spoken, reading and written comprehension) and in French (spoken, reading and comprehension) is essential.
- Experience with Microsoft Office is essential.
- Related experience is preferred.
