Reporting to the Assistant Director of Engineering & Operations, the Transportation Engineer will work closely with Engineering staff on transportation, development and capital construction projects. Additionally, the are responsible for providing input, recommendations, and technical decisions to advance the City’s overall Transportation System. Focusing on safety and efficiency, the incumbent will develop strategies to improve the movement of pedestrians and vehicles, identify and eliminate pedestrian and AT gaps, identity and improve aspects of cycling network, identify safety concerns within the system through Engineering analysis. The Transportation Engineer will all provide support to various operational Divisions within Engineering and Operations.
Position Summary :
- Provides technical decisions and recommendations on the City’s transportation system including roadways, sidewalks, pedestrian crossings, cycling infrastructure, intersections, and lighting.
- Works with the Transportation Engineer to establish a capital program to address safety and efficiency issues identified in the transportation system.
- Provides technical guidance to staff and consultants on development projects and capital construction projects.
- Establishes and maintains linkages to the Traffic Operations Section to provide advice, coordinate input, and ensure an effective partnership.
- Establishes and maintains linkages to the Transit and Parking Division
- Establishes and maintains effective partnerships with interest groups within the community.
- Presents information and recommendations to Standing Committees and City Council.
- Establishes and maintains effective partnerships with the City Police with respect to responding to citizen traffic concerns and public education.
Position Specifications :
Education and Experience :
- University Degree in Civil Engineering with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience. A master’s degree would be considered an asset.
- Knowledge of the principals and practices of Traffic/Transportation Engineering.
- Traffic operations modelling (Synchro) is desirable and a working knowledge of TDM and simulation software (VISUM/VISSIM) is considered an asset.
- Experience identifying collision trends via historical collision data is considered an asset.
- Registered (or future eligibility to register (MIT) as a Professional Engineer in APEGNB.
- Ability to communicate effectively with the public, Council, consultants, and the media.

- Ability to speak in both official languages would be considered an asset.
