ACCOUNTING ASSISTANT

The New Brunswick Union of Public and Private Employees, representing over 10,000 unionized public and private employees in New Brunswick, is seeking applications to fill a full-time permanent Accounting Assistant position. This position is based in-office in Fredericton. The position requires a person who is dynamic, has proven ability to work independently, has exceptional problem-solving skills, and functions well in a team environment.

Duties: The Accounting Assistant provides exceptional service and support as a critical member of the accounting team. You are responsible for accounts payable, receiving, reviewing, reconciling and paying vendors, members and employees. You also prepare payroll and remit required regulatory and benefit reports and payments as well as assist in month and year-end closing and other projects as needed. You will maintain complete and accurate documentation in appropriate files. You will also establish rapport with suppliers to ensure all matters are dealt with in a timely manner. All handling of sensitive information will be with a high degree of integrity and confidentiality.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will be proficient in the use of Sage accounting software, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. The position requires a person who has a comprehensive knowledge of the full accounting cycle and is meticulously detail oriented. The person must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, be flexible, results-oriented, self-motivated, and have solid problem-solving and organizational skills. As an Accounting Assistant you will be an enthusiastic team player who collaborates on various projects and has the flexibility to prioritize work demands.

A post-secondary degree, diploma or certificate in accounting is required. With continuous improvement in mind, the successful candidate would be interested in completing additional accounting courses as required and approved.

Subject to the response to this competition, required qualifications may be modified.

NB Union offers a competitive salary and benefits package, commensurate with experience. The salary is from $2,444-$3,119 biweekly.
