Description

The Building Structure Estimator is responsible for evaluating costs and preparing accurate estimates for building structure construction projects, such as residential, multi-residential, commercial, and institutional projects. This role requires a thorough analysis of project plans and specifications, as well as a deep understanding of materials, construction methods, and associated costs.

Responsibilities

Carefully review architectural plans and technical specifications of the project to understand construction requirements and identify necessary structural elements.
Estimate costs associated with building structure construction, including materials, labor, equipment, subcontractors, and overhead.
Quantify materials needed for building structure construction, considering dimensions, quantities, and technical specifications.
Obtain quotes and prices from suppliers and subcontractors for materials and services required for construction, comparing offers to select the most cost-effective options.
Prepare detailed estimates using specialized cost estimation software, integrating quantitative data with unit prices and overhead costs to establish an overall project budget.
Prepare and present estimation proposals to potential clients, explaining cost details and addressing their questions and concerns.
Review and update estimates in case of modifications or changes in project plans, ensuring that costs are adjusted accordingly.
Work closely with engineers, architects, project managers, and other team members to ensure that estimates meet project needs and budget goals.

Requirements

Degree in architecture technology, civil engineering, building mechanical engineering, or equivalent, an asset.
Experience in project estimation, preferably in the field of building structure construction, is an asset.
Proficiency in cost estimation software.
In-depth knowledge of construction materials, construction methods, and associated costs.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret architectural plans and technical specifications.
Familiarity with computer-aided design software, such as AutoCAD, is an asset.
Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills to interact with clients, suppliers, and project team members.
Ability to work under pressure and meet strict project deadlines.
Attention to detail and accuracy in estimation work to ensure the accuracy of projected costs.
Organizational skills and ability to manage priorities.
