Description

The HVAC / Building Mechanical Designer plays a crucial role within a company specialized in mechanical design and construction. Responsible for designing and planning heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems for various projects in industrial, commercial, institutional, and multi-residential sectors, ensuring that installations meet quality, safety, and performance standards.

Responsibilities

Meet with clients, assess their needs, and evaluate project engineering requirements.
Analyze plans, specifications, and project documents.
Participate in site visits to clients and document relevant data for advancing preliminary and/or detailed engineering.
Perform load calculations with relevant data using appropriate tools such as Carrier's Hourly Analysis Program (HAP) or other software.
Develop concepts for ventilation, plumbing, and piping networks.
Design and develop HVAC system solutions for different types of buildings, considering clients' specific needs, budget constraints, and applicable regulations.
Develop detailed plans, schematics, and drawings of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems using computer-aided design (CAD) software and following building codes and standards.
Collaborate with engineers and other members of the design team to integrate HVAC systems with other disciplines, such as plumbing, electrical, and structural, into overall project plans.
Perform thermal load calculations and simulations to determine heating and cooling capacity requirements for buildings, as well as to optimize energy efficiency.
Select appropriate HVAC equipment, such as boilers, air handling units, fans, and control systems, considering performance, costs, and durability.
Prepare necessary technical documentation, including specifications, design reports, and materials lists, to support implementation of HVAC systems in the field.
Ensure effective coordination with construction teams and subcontractors during the installation phase, providing technical support and addressing questions to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
Assist project managers in the installation and commissioning of systems.
Conduct site inspections to assess compliance of HVAC installations with applicable plans and regulations and propose modifications if necessary.
Participate in project coordination meetings to discuss progress, potential issues, and solutions, and provide regular updates to the project management team.

Requirements

Technical diploma in building mechanics or Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (building mechanical).
Experience in HVAC system design or a similar role in the construction industry is an asset.
Combined knowledge of HVAC (ventilation, piping, and plumbing) is an asset.
Knowledge of energy efficiency and financial support programs is an asset.
Thorough understanding of design principles and industry standards related to heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
Proficiency in CAD software used for HVAC system design, such as AutoCAD, Revit MEP, or equivalent.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members and clients.
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, while adhering to deadlines and budgets.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
