We are seeking a Quality Control Lead to be based at the CNRL Horizon Site in Northern Alberta. This is a temporary position to support an industrial construction turnaround project 2024. Charter flights from Calgary or Edmonton and camp will be provided.
The Quality Control Lead is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, controlling and evaluating the activities of its office and field operations pertaining to Quality Assurance/Control and will report to the Turnaround Manager. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Manage implementation and effectiveness of the project quality program through reviews, document findings and implement corrective/preventive actions
- Provide support & maintain effective communications with project management team and the client on quality related issues
- Provide training to supervision and craft regarding the project specific quality process and requirements as requested
- Hire, train, mentor and supervise project quality inspection personnel developing future quality leader
- Develop a thorough knowledge of the project scope, schedule, inspection, testing, and quality documentation requirements
- Responsible to develop, implement and monitor a QC Turnover System to progressive turnover QC documents as per the client requirement
- Have a thorough knowledge of the Projects Quality Management System, Work Instructions and Procedures
- Develop complete understanding of contract plans, specifications, applicable codes and jurisdictional requirements
- Be familiar with ASME Quality Control Manual; be capable of managing the ASME Quality Control Inspector's work on the assigned project
- Organize and maintain inspection and testing documentation and files
- Report and document Non-Conformance when they occur. Assist in ensuring rework is tracked and reported
- Ensure that welder certifications and status logs are maintained current and submitted as required. Manage/liaison with third party testing and Authorized Inspection agencies
- Review and approve all third party test results for compliance with project requirements when required. Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective actions to eliminate or minimize hazards
- Coordinate system turnover activities with operating plant teams and assist in assembling turnover packages
- Provide input on continuous improvement of quality program
- Ensure effective delegation and coordination of direct report activities
- Supervise and assign tasks to Inspection and support personnel

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Certification as a CSA W178.2 Level II or Level lll Welding Inspector
- Certification as an API 510 / API 570 Inspector or National Board Inspector
- Trade certification as welder, pipefitter or boilermaker or technical (2 year college program in related discipline), 5 years of which will be in QA/QC or P. Eng. with 8 years' experience in industrial construction, 5 years of which will be in QA/ QC
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or college diploma in engineering technology
- Construction Safety Training Systems (CSTS-09 or newer)

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- 8+ years of Quality Control & Quality Assurance experience in the Industrial Construction industry
- Trade certification as welder, pipefitter or boilermaker or technical (2 year college program in related discipline), 5 years of which will be in QA/QC or P. Eng. with 8 years' experience in industrial construction, 5 years of which will be in QA/ QC
- 5+ years' experience working in Shutdown/Turnaround projects
SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Strong background in welding & fabrication is required
- Experienced with ASME, API, ABSA and Alberta pressure equipment safety regulations
- Extensive experience in development and implementation of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems
- Strong knowledge in CSA & ASME codes and standards is required
- Strong managerial and leadership skills
