Laser Welding Applications Lab Manager (FT/Perm) Kingston, ON

About the position:

Our client is looking for an individual to manage our state-of-the-art laser application facility in Kingston Ontario. This lab encompasses 5+ manufacturing cells, comprised of multi-axis robotic equipment, laser welding units and chillers, integrated welding systems, beam delivery and their revolutionary in-line weld monitoring system. 

The successful candidate will apply their knowledge of laser welding to develop new welding and monitoring applications, schedule lab activities, maintain the equipment and coordinate activities between the commercial and technical teams. This is an opportunity to work directly at one of the most advanced laser laboratories in Canada. 

About you:

• You’re a laser welding expert and have an advanced understanding of optics. 
• You have experience with automation and robotics and are capable of setting up wiring and switching infrastructure. 
• You love to build and create new things and solve technical problems along the way. 
• You understand PLC and G-code fundamentals. 
• Collaboration and teamwork come naturally to you and you have demonstrable experience being part of a high-performing team. 
• As a self-starter you can work under minimal supervision and have excellent communication and technical report writing skills. 
• Growth excites you as does the chance to see your work have a direct impact on the success of our organization. 
• Safety is one of your core values and you know how to implement HSE policies and procedures and mitigate workplace risks. 
• You have a post-secondary technical education in engineering/physics or a related field or supplementary work experience.

Responsibilities:

• Be the central point of expertise for Laser Welding Applications at our client’s Canadian office. 
• Develop and re-create welding process parameters to acquire high-quality weld measurement data from our client’s proprietary monitoring technology. 
• Work with other Lab Managers to communicate and share best practices on application development and welding processes. 
• Create and distribute quarterly reports on Application and present to management on a quarterly basis. 
• Provide oversight, supervision, maintenance, troubleshooting and management of all associated lab laser welding components and activities. 
• Procure necessary equipment and materials and make recommendations to upgrade and replace equipment as needed. 
• Work with commercial and R&D teams to schedule and prioritize applications activities. 
• Create SOP’s, documentation and associated policies and procedures governing applications lab work. 
• Create Applications reports for distribution to clients and internal/external stakeholders.

Preference will be given to candidates who have laser welding and optics experience. Candidates with strong backgrounds in automation and robotics will also be considered.
