Position Summary:

Reporting to the Manager, Facilities Operations, under the day to day direction of the leadhand, the HVACR Technician I, performs a wide variety of tasks relevant to the installation and maintenance of the University’s heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems, equipment and building systems.  May participate in other duties related to Physical Resources Operations.

This position is based on the Brantford campus.

Accountabilities:

• Respects and responds to direction given by leadhand(s);
• Contributes and participates in the effective use of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (TMA) in order to manage customer expectations, monitor productivity and schedule work;
• Services, maintains and installs gas fired hot water heating boilers (including controls) and ancillaries to the limitation of the certification of the incumbent;
• Installs, services and maintains heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment including ancillaries as per schedule, to the limitation and certification of the incumbent;
• Installs, services and maintains gas fired equipment including ancillaries as per schedules and to the limitation and certification of the incumbent;
• Installs, services and maintains refrigeration equipment including ancillaries as per schedules, to the limitation and certification of the incumbent;
• Services, repairs and maintains humidifiers, water softeners, de-ionizers as per schedule
• Installs, services, maintains and repairs mechanical pumps as required;
• Accesses, monitors, controls and programs Building Automation Systems;
• Services, supports and maintains University Access Control Systems and devices.  Assists with access control distribution where required;
• Tests, controls and maintains water systems and related equipment;
• Performs pipe fitting;
• Solders, welds (arc or oxyacetylene);
• Services and maintains compressors and pneumatic controls;
• Services window air-conditioning units;
• Services, maintains and operates chillers and related equipment to the specified schedule;
• Assists with the support, service and maintenance of the University Life Safety Systems and equipment to the limitations of the incumbent’s skill, training and code requirements;
• Services, repairs and maintains all building related systems; mechanical, electrical, structural, as required to the limitation and certification of the incumbent. 
• Co-ordinates with outside service providers and other bodies/agencies with which the University deals, ensuring they are fulfilling their contractual obligations;
• Prepares estimates for work orders;
• Requests, orders or picks up required material from suppliers in order to complete the job;
• Ensures adequate supplies are in stock for emergency repairs and preventative maintenance;
• Maintains adequate records to comply with internal and external requirements;
• Prepares any reports required for control, audit or reporting purposes;
• Understands and complies with all University and Departmental Policies and Procedures, the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other relevant legislation;
• Performs other related duties, including minor duties of other trades where certification is not required and the work does not exceed own limitations;
• Flexibility in hours of work will be required in order to temporarily adjust shift schedules, work evenings and/or weekends to accommodate work volume.  Adequate notice will be provided.
• Required to be part of an on call rotation.

Qualifications:

• Must possess a Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Certificate
• Must possess a Certificate of Apprenticeship, HVACR
• Must possess a current Gas Technician I Certificate, or have the ability to successfully obtain one within a set period of time.  Ability to work in the trade
• Must possess a current Ozone Depletion Program Certificate
• Extensive experience with building maintenance, hot water and steam boilers
• Extensive experience with heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration, and gas fired equipment  
• Currently working in the trade or enrolled in a recognized apprenticeship program
• Must possess a valid Class - G Ontario Driver’s license
• Ability to read and work from blueprints and schematic
• Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, Quality Control Systems, e-mail etc.
• Ability to work in a team environment with a minimum of supervision.  Shares information with team members.  Is collaborative in dealing with customers and fellow employees.

Compensation:

Rate of Pay:  $37.19 per hour

Hours of Work: This is a full-time, continuing position.The normal hours of work are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm (including 1/2 hour unpaid lunch break), Monday to Friday.  Flexibility in hours will be required, including evening and/or weekend work due to work volume.  When possible, the manager will adjust the work schedule so that no more than 40 hours are worked in a week.
