Position Description
A temporary full time (1.0) Primary Teacher is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective immediately until the return of the incumbent but not beyond June 30, 2024. The assignment will be at Upper Halfway Elementary/Jr. Secondary School.
Upper Halfway Elementary Junior School is a K – 9 school located in the picturesque valley near the forks of the Graham and Upper Halfway Rivers, 130 km from Fort St John. 45 students are currently enrolled from the Halfway River First Nations Reserve and surrounding Russian/German speaking communities. Many of our students are English Language Learners. Upper Halfway Elementary School receives administrative assistance from SD60’s District Vice Principal and employs three full-time teachers, three Educational Assistants, and one Indigenous Student Support Worker. Qualifications and Experience
- Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
- Qualifications and demonstrated ability to teach the identified subjects
- Experience with universal design and differentiation to meet the diverse needs of students
- Excellent interpersonal, communications, collaboration and organization skills
- Experience/training/knowledge of Social Emotional Learning.
Demonstrated ability to create a positive classroom community
contributing to a safe, caring, and healthy school where every student
feels a sense of belonging
- Strong belief in the philosophy of inclusion and the potential of all students to learn
- Understanding of the BC Curriculum and ability to plan both short-term and long-term in consideration of class composition
- Willingness to work in a collaborative model with staff on the foundation of enhancing student learning
- Demonstrated use of classroom management practices that are pro-active and maintain student dignity
- Demonstrated use of assessment practices that promote student learning and maintain student dignity
- Experience working with English Language Learners (ELL)
- Willingness to communicate and develop trusting relations with students, staff and community
- Strong computer related skills and an ability to integrate technology into the learning environment
- Ability to work in a collaborative model with staff on the Framework for Enhancing Student Learning (school improvement plan)
- Commitment to continuous professional learning
- Need to have a drivers license and vehicle
- Experience with winter driving would be an asset
- Willingness to work in a remote rural setting
- Willingness to work outdoors in winter months

Compensation
- $2000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $4000 for teachers from other areas
- $2,947 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)
- Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $63,492 - $108,576
- Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enroll in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance. Benefits are employer paid based on FTE
- Isolation allowance of $1742.62 paid over 10 months
- $7,000 Signing bonus available
- One-time lump sum taxable payment to be paid not later than your first paycheck
- Candidate cannot be a current employee of the District
- Candidate must be Eligible for a BC Teaching Certificate
