PLANNER 1 – Parks
Regular Full-Time

The Engineering, Parks and Environment Department is looking for a regular full-time Planner 1 – Parks to join the team tasked with delivering an exciting and diverse portfolio of new and renewed parks and outdoor recreation infrastructure. The role will also support an upcoming City-wide Parks comprehensive plan will map of the parks vision for the next 10 years.
In this role you will bring your creativity and expertise to expand and enhance the City’s diverse park system by leading a variety of projects that will bring new amenities and programming opportunities to the City. This will involve preparing park plans, contributing to the development of long term strategic plans and policy, leading public engagement and consultation processes, design development, tendering and project management for parks improvements, playgrounds, sports fields, trails and natural area restorations. You will contribute to the development of the capital plan, review development proposals, prepare Council reports and presentations, draft related by-laws and policy proposals for submission to City Council and liaise with a variety of internal and external contacts. You will also, attend City Council and Committee meetings when required, oversee consultant work, and provide expertise to larger-scale projects.
Your qualifications include a university degree in an appropriate discipline, plus a post-graduate degree in Community/Regional Planning, Landscape Architecture, or other related areas with considerable professional design experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. You will have considerable knowledge of practices, principles and techniques applicable to urban planning, landscape architecture, parks and environmental planning and design, excellent communication and relationship building skills, ability to understand and explain technical concepts and plans, and provide professional advice to other departments, council, and the public. Training in project management and graphic design skills would also be an asset. Membership or eligibility for membership in the Planning Institute of B.C. or the Canadian Institute of Planners is required. Eligibility for registration as a Landscape Architect with the BC Society of Landscape Architecture would be an asset. A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License is required.
Salary:
$50.13 – $59.23 per hour
(Pay Grade 28 – January 2024 rates)
This position has a pay structure with five steps, which increase annually.
Hours of Work:
The City of North Vancouver currently works on a compressed work schedule of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately each three-week scheduling cycle.
