Position Summary
Interior Health is hiring a permanent full time Strategic Business Consultant to join the Partnerships & Land Management team. This position is flexible within the Interior Health region . This team supports IH’s strategic planning and partnership activities in areas including real estate, land management, contracting, procurement, as well as support recruitment and retention strategies by implementing a new childcare and housing strategy.

The ideal candidate will have strong project management skills, as well as experience in one or more of the following areas: planning, leasing, procurement/contracting, contract law, experience in childcare and/or housing projects or initiatives in the non-profit, public, or private sectors.

How will you create an impact:
The Strategic Business Consultant is responsible for supporting the Corporate Director in maximizing value and minimizing risk in the relationships with partners. This includes analyzing the market for contractual opportunities as well as managing issues related to partners and partner contracts already in place. The Consultant will support the program managers on strategic issues related to their contracts but will mainly focus on reorienting contracts and relationships from a financial model to a strategic model and on ensuring contractual accountability throughout the contract term.

Key issues for the Strategic Business Consultant will be issues of contractual due process, performance management, and relationships with partners.

In alignment with IH’s Occupational Health & Safety Program, employees shall adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures at all times and attend all required training. Employees are responsible to report any identified hazards, unsafe conditions or incidents to the manager or supervisor immediately.

What will you work on:
• Takes a leadership role in procurements, monitoring, and termination of contracts within specific portfolios (e.g., mental health, home and community care).

• Advises the Interior Health (IH) Program Manager in the review and development of contract processes to ensure that new processes are strategically appropriate.

• Advises IH Program Managers on the strategic implications of contractual decisions and on appropriate action regarding the procurement and termination policies.

• Develops strategic reports on the contract portfolio in conjunction with the Corporate Director.

• Takes a lead role in project work as required, including reviews of the contract portfolio, review of market opportunities, and recommendations for change.

• Supports IH Managers in the development and refinement of a performance management system for their contracts.

• Responsible for making recommendations and, where appropriate, implementing change on issues of contractual compliance, including the development of criteria/information packages regarding issues such as change of ownership and subcontracting within contracts.

• Supports the Corporate Director with information to support RFP evaluation and new contract negotiation.

• Supports the Corporate Director in complex starts and terminations in contracts.

• Key liaison with Directors and partners on strategic issues.

Qualfications
Education, Training and Experience
• A bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or financial management or significant experience in these fields.
• A minimum of 7 years of experience in a complex environment.
• Knowledge of Word and Excel. Knowledge Access and/or SQL would be an asset.

Skills and Abilities
• Ability to analyze an issue and provide recommendations for action.
• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management in IH and with outside partners.
• Ability to lead projects and work independently.
• Flexible and willing to support the team where deemed necessary by the manager or Director.
• Ability to work under pressure of deadlines and prioritize effectively.
• Ability to deal with a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
