Description:

The Manager, Provincial Laboratory for Public Health is a key leadership role in the delivery of Laboratory Services and reports directly to the Director, Provincial Laboratory for Public Health (PLPH), Alberta Precision Laboratories. This position is responsible and accountable for providing the operational management and leadership of PHPL programs, staff, and resources of the Provincial Laboratory for Public Health (PLPH) in support of the vision, mission, and strategic business plan of Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL). The manager based at ProvLab Edmonton (UAH) works collaboratively and communicates effectively with the manager at the Calgary (FMC/SHC) site. The manager position provides support and counsel to the PHPL leadership team on all aspects of laboratory operations and collaborates closely with other managers to ensure standardized implementation of best practices, policies, and procedures. The manager provides direction to site supervisors, participates in continual improvement initiatives, monitors operational outcomes, team building, staff engagement and effective change management. The manager develops and maintains strong working relationships with the PLPH Medical Scientific team to develop, implement and evaluate strategic and operational plans to support patient focused care programs and public health laboratory programs at PLPH.

Additional Required Qualifications:

A minimum of 3 years healthcare leadership experience in a health care organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity. A demonstrated clear pattern of progressive professional and personal development. Intermediate/advanced understanding of quality management systems. Proven leadership skills including team building, resource management, conflict resolution, written and verbal communication, and facilitation/change management. Ability to prioritize and achieve results in a fast paced and changing environment. Solution oriented with a focus on decision making and resolving complex issues.


Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated knowledge of change management methodologies. Strong record in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Strong commitment to operating within a team environment and the ability to motivate and inspire other to achieve common goals.
