We are looking for a Technical Officer to support our Energy, Mining and Environment Research Centre. The Technical Officer would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

 

Working closely with a Team Leader and Project Managers, the Technical Officer provides technical support services in the design, planning, conduct and analysis of various experiments, test and facility operations.

Screening Criteria

Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:

Education

College diploma or bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or other related fields.

Experience

• Significant experience in hands-on operation and maintenance of a suite of advanced characterization equipment for elemental analysis: Wavelength Dispersive X-ray Fluorescense (WD-XRF), Total Reflection X-ray Flouresence (TXRF), Inductive Coupled Plasma Mass Spectroscopy (ICP-MS) and Combustion analyzer.
• Significant experience in conducting routine analytical tests in a laboratory setting, performing analysis of experimental data and documenting results.
• Significant experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) for recording and presenting data in an appropriate format for discussion and interpretation by other members of the work group. 
• Experience in establishing standard operating procedures (SOPs) for working safely in a laboratory environment.
• Basic experience in conducting measurement using X-ray Diffraction (XRD) technique would be considered an asset.

Compensation

Rates under review.

From $58,445 to $80,040 per annum.

• Ability to work in conditions found in an ordinary laboratory environment with some (minimal) exposure to hazardous materials or chemicals such as adhesives and cleaning agents. Independently work in such environments in a safe manner, with a working-level tolerance to a typical test environment with enhanced noise levels, heat and reduced air quality.
