Job description
General Manager
Our client is searching for a General Manager responsible for the growth and execution of their distribution and short transmission line work in Southern Ontario. This position focuses on Ontario’s safety performance, business strategy, customer management, operational excellence and P&L performance. The role will report to the Vice President.
Your success will be defined by your ability to: - Ensure compliance and adherence to the safety requirements and work procedures
- Ensure compliance to all federal, provincial and client requirements
- Ensure all incidents are investigated, root causes determined, as well as the implementation of identified improvements and corrections
- Develop a “safety first” culture in the Ontario team
- Develop an annual plan with the Northern Ontario General Manager to improve safety performance across the province
- Deliver operations and project profits
- Monitor and deliver projects for schedules and profits
- Understand and manage bid risks
- Understand and manage the company’s reputational risks
- Understand the utility and electrical activities in the Ontario region
- Develop strong relationships with customers and clients
- Understand the company’s customer needs and business goals
- Ensure the development of project estimates
- Review all estimates to ensure resources are assigned according to operation requirements
- Ensure all site and contractual risks are understood
- Ensure all HR policies are adhered to
- Issue discipline where required
- Ensure all team members are treated with respect and dignity as per the code of conduct
- Mentor other team members and identify key performers
- Ensure development plans are in place for personnel and crews
- Ensure compliance with the union/non union groups, collective agreements/dispute resolutions
- Develop relationship with key leaders and union leaders
Your strengths include: - At least 1 of: Licensed Power Lineman or Construction Electrician, Technologist, Professional Engineer or related Construction Degree
- Experience in Electrical Utility Trade (electrical and civil components)
- 15+ years of electrical/civil industry experience
- Communication abilities
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Analytical and problem solving skills
- Decision making skills
- Effective verbal and listening communication skills
- Understanding of industry markets
- Computer skills including the ability to use a spreadsheet and word processing programs
