The Company
 
Globe 24-7 in partnership with their client in Newfoundland, Canada is in search of a Financial Controller.

Position Overview   

The Financial Controller will oversee the financial and operational aspects of the gold mine, including supervision of the Finance, Procurement, and IT teams both at the main office and on-site. Responsibilities include managing site operations, financial reporting, budgeting, cost analysis, forecasting, internal controls, and relevant systems and infrastructure. Additionally, the Manager will establish and enforce policies, procedures, and systems for financial, procurement, and IT management, ensuring alignment with corporate and project standards while maintaining oversight of daily departmental activities.
 
The Responsibilities

 
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

Foster and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Ensure adherence to policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, monitoring compliance.

Implement best industry practices across Financial, Procurement, and IT functions.

Prioritize health, safety, and environmental concerns within the organization’s culture.

Facilitate safety training for employees and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

Oversee security measures to safeguard people and assets.

Manage the Financial, Procurement, and IT framework supporting exploration, construction, and operations.

Oversee day-to-day activities, including financial and management reporting, payroll, and accounts payable.

Maintain an effective internal control environment through policy adherence and process development.

Support annual budgeting and periodic forecasting.

Serve as a key contact for internal and external audits, providing accurate information promptly.

Stay abreast of corporate accounting policies and financial reporting requirements.

Develop and enforce financial, procurement, and IT management policies and procedures.

Provide training and development opportunities for staff in financial, procurement, and IT systems.

Cultivate productive relationships within the team and deliver quality services.

Offer financial and analytical support to management.

Ensure accuracy in monthly financial reporting and prepare necessary reports for management.

Manage departmental budget for the site, identifying efficiencies and monitoring economic conditions.

Allocate operating and capital costs to align with business plans.

Review and guide equipment and labor requirements.

Maintain strong relationships with senior management and corporate finance teams.

Uphold a culture of respect, accountability, transparency, and inclusion.

Set clear performance expectations and key indicators for leadership team members.

Support career development and succession planning through training and mentoring programs.

Assess performance regularly and address training needs.

Encourage collaboration and continuous improvement across departments.

Fulfill other duties as assigned.

 
Qualifications & Experience  

Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting; CPA certification preferred.

Over 10 years of relevant experience.

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in team leadership and change management.

Experience with remote work environments is advantageous.

Background in Mining or similar industrial settings is beneficial.

Familiarity with SAP is a plus.

Proficient in IFRS financial reporting standards.

Demonstrated ability to lead and manage teams effectively.

Strong communication skills to engage with senior-level business partners.

Understanding of procurement and IT processes and procedures.

Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a knack for optimizing business processes and systems.

Comfortable interacting with diverse management levels across various departments.

Demonstrates sound business judgment and decision-making abilities.

Capable of synthesizing complex data into actionable insights.

Advanced proficiency in Excel and experience with consolidation and reporting tools like SAP, as well as creating PowerPoint presentations.

Skilled at reviewing data and making informed management decisions.

Solid understanding of financial systems and business administration.

Possession of a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
