LOCATION: McNicoll (North York, ON) and Hartsdale (Etobicoke, ON) sites

POSITION TYPE: Full-time Regular (37.5 hours/week)

  Lumenus Autism offers ABA-based behavioural services that are designed to address the unique needs of our children aged 2-11 years. We are a one stop-shop for families looking to access caring, coordinated & convenient autism services at our beautiful Hartsdale and McNicoll locations in Toronto. Lumenus Autism is a lively, fast-paced and full of action. We pride ourselves in bringing the best out of everyone as we create new programs & services catered to our clients. The position will be based (in-person) at both 65 Hartsdale Drive and 155 McNicoll Avenue in Toronto.

Under the supervision of a Board-Certified Behaviour Analyst, the Behaviour Therapist develops program plans, delivers parent education sessions and works directly with children and youth with autism and their families in the direct implementation of treatment rooted in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Preparation

• Prepare and organize the teaching environment and materials
• Review available information pertaining to service users on caseload on a regular basis
• Participate in intake and assessment activities as appropriate
• Coordinate the day to day activities of the program, when assigned
• Participate in the joint planning of activities with other program rooms/services as applicable

Treatment of Individualized/Group Program Implementation

• Implement the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis in one to one, dyads and group services across a variety of learning environments
• Administration of clinical assessments
• Assess and work with clients that have behaviour challenges, including those with complex presentations
• Draft individualized behaviour plans in consultation with and for review by the BCBA
• Facilitate group sessions
• Develop individual and/or group goals and strategies
• Follow prescribed skill acquisition programs and behaviour reduction plans as written and seeks consultation from clinical supervisor/ BCBA as needed
• Assess and monitor individual child /youth skills, abilities, interests, strengths and needs
• Collect, record summarize and evaluate data on child/youth progress towards skill acquisition programs and behaviour reduction plans
• Complete recording and documentation according to organization and program standards
• Prepare written documentation and reports regarding child/youth plans, progress and needs as required
• Preparation of teaching materials
• Ensure best practice through the provision of assessment, service, discharge and follow-up activitieAs required, assume classroom responsibilities not limited to, updating consents, writing Behaviour Plans, child welfare reporting etc. 

Collaboration, Consultation, and Communication

• Collaborates with other team members in the development of applied behavioural analysis programs and procedures
• Consults with other team members and professionals as required
• Maintain regular communications with parents and family members as required
• Participates in scheduled team meetings and conferences as required
• Presents information (both written and oral) sensitively and effectively
• Collaborates with Supervisors regarding programming and client’s progress
• Work within a multidisciplinary team
• Mentor new Behaviour Technician hires and provide supervision and mentorship to students and volunteers
• Adhere to agency standards of professional conduct and agency regulations
• Participate and complete all mandatory trainings- CPR/First Aid, SMG Crisis Prevention and Client Information Systems (CIS)
• Assume staff coverage as required (sickness, or any unanticipated absences)
• Maintain and review data integrity with Client information system 

Parent Training and Education

• Facilitate parent training and coaching as it relates to Applied Behaviour Analysis and individual child/youth treatment program. Programs may be delivered virtually on site, in home and community as required.
• Liaise with caregivers on a regular basis
• Deliver parent/caregiver training and education
• As required develop supplementary customized individual education
• Provide direct parent coaching and mentoring.
• Provide modeling techniques and strategies, resources and support as required

Special Projects as Assigned

• Special projects may vary and include workforce capacity grant projects, curriculum development, quality assurance projects, facilities projects, etc.
• Work on client and staffing need assessments and program evaluations
• Work with external consultants on various projects as needed

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

• Required: Degree ABA/ Behaviour Science and Technology (BST)/ Early Childhood Education with knowledge of Autism

• Preferred: Master’s degree in ABA, Psychology, Education, Early Childhood Education or Child and Youth Worker

• Relevant experience should include:

• 2+ years’ experience working with children /youth diagnosed with Autism; Autism Spectrum Disorder; (ASD).

• Demonstrated experience applying the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis in various settings (group, individualized)

• Strong Interpersonal and Communication Skills (both written and verbal)

• Clinical judgment

• Problem solving skills

• Program planning and implementation

• Accurate data collection and graphing

• Organization and time management

• Behaviour management of children and/or youth

• Knowledge of typical and atypical child and adolescent development

• Ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams and in the home or community as applicable

• Ability to work independently

• Knowledge of developmental milestones in early childhood

• Understanding of child welfare issues and policies

• Sensitivity to multi-cultural issues

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)

• Knowledge of Boardmaker and other technology solutions for children and youth is an asset and highly preferred

• Must be able to lift and transfer up to 50 lbs

• Physical demands of the position include, but are not limited to;

• Frequent bending, walking, escorting, engagement in play/sport type activities;

• Regularly sitting on low seats and bending/twisting/reaching,

• Repetitive movements, possibly in awkward positions,

• Based on individual circumstances, may be required to physically move a child,

• Able to move/run quickly and/or respond safely from a standing, sitting, kneeling, etc. position.

• High degree of attention, focus and vigilance

• Be directed and engaged despite possible intrusive factors (e.g ongoing distractions/noise, upset of children, observation)

• High degree of sensitivity, thoughtfulness and care to child(ren)’s vulnerabilities and needs

• Proactive anticipation, prevention and management of harm and/or crisis situations

• Ability to make quick and sound judgements regarding risk and/or safety

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Access to reliable transportation to travel to various work sites within the GTA

• Able to work in-person, across sites, and flexible for evenings/weekends (e.g. Tuesday to Saturday schedule)
