About Our Opportunity

 

 

As the Senior Architect, you will lead and support a group of 1 to 3 Architectural Technologists who will be responsible for the architectural designs to ensure that construction, repair or maintenance projects undertaken by this new Technical Engineering and Design Services Team are completed in a professional, safe and efficient manner. Your team will support the Real Estate and Infrastructure Management Branch by providing input to the Capital Planning process, Technical Evlautions of existing infrastructure, participating in the development of scopes for approved projects, providing design services within the capacity of the team in coordination with all disciplines and providing design review services of submittal from external service providers. During the tender, award, execution and close-out phases of the project, you will provide technical support to the project team.

 

Primary Accountabilities

 

Requirements of this position include a solid base and understanding of architectural practices as well as good skills and judgement in this field. Our work environment is evolving and we need your architectural experience and leadership abilities to effectively design construction details and drawings to ensure a safe and healthy built environment.

You will be responsible for the design of projects for our Construction section as well as those performed by outside Contractors. You will be responsible for approving and professionally stamping all designs being developed by you and your Design Team. In addition to provide project specific technical support, you will lead the development of architectural standards that will inform future planning and establish a yardstick for the measurement of proposed design solutions. You and your Team will be located in downtown Halifax and are responsible for a wide range of projects in every corner of the province.

Qualifications and Experience

 

You must have a university degree in Architecture, be a licensed Professional Architect with the Nova Scotia Association of Architects (NSAA) or be eligible to be licenced through an association that has a reciprocity agreement with the Nova Scotia Architect Association. You must have a minimum of eight (8) years of Architectural designing and detailing of construction projects.

Working Conditions

 

This position has a combination of office and field work. Field work occurs in adverse weather conditions and normal hazards associated with construction sites and working with or near heavy equipment are present.

This position will require climbing, working at heights and/or working within confined spaces.

You must be able to work under adverse conditions in times of emergency and sometimes overtime may be required.

Frequent travel across the Province of Nova Scotia is a requirement of this position (a valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record is required).

Pay Grade: PR 18  

Salary Range:  $3,215.50 - $3,781.51 Bi-Weekly
