AGS is looking for a Health & Safety Specialist to join our dynamic organization.
JOB SUMMARY
The Health & Safety Specialist is responsible for leading and implementing the health and safety initiatives for the plant they support and proactively identifying health and safety needs and prioritizing accordingly based on risk.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Advise managers, teams and individual employees on health and safety matters and corrective steps for multiple locations in Southwestern Ontario
- Support Corporate H&S programs and initiatives
- Assess health and safety compliance with legislation, internal procedures, the OHSA and regulation requirements by regular walk throughs, inspections, testing, documentation checking etc.
- Collaborate in the improvement of new programs and approaches
- Coordinate and participate in audit activities to identify opportunities for continuous improvement
- Identify health and safety training needs, develop programs and conduct training
- Attend and participate in Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings
- Develop and maintain systems to effectively analyze injuries and plant safety performance
- Attend and assist in resolving work refusals and potentially dangerous circumstances
- Lead team investigations of incidents and accidents as required by company reporting procedure
- Specify personal protective equipment, guarding etc., as required
- Create, maintain and analyze tables, charts and graphs to identify trends and focus safety efforts to reduce claims
EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety and/or Bachelor's degree
- Working towards CRSP certification
- 3-5 years of Health and Safety experience
- 3 years of manufacturing experience
- Ability to coach and influence health and safety expectations of daily business operations
- Thorough knowledge of the OHSA and Regulations
- Awareness of external trends in occupational health and safety
- Excellent English communication skills both written and oral
- Effective computer skills, specifically Excel and Word
- Certification in First Aid and CPR are assets

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Required to adhere to and comply with environmental, health and safety rules/policies as related to the job function and business conduct guidelines
- Most work is carried out in a typical business office, with frequent visits to the shop floor that require wearing personal protective equipment (safety footwear, hearing protection, safety glasses) in appropriate areas
- Travel to other AGS sites occasionally
