Job description
Saanich, the largest municipality on southern Vancouver Island, has a diverse parks system with over 170 parks and natural areas and over 100 km of trails. The Parks Division is seeking an experienced Landscape Technician to perform technical work including field investigation, data collection and relevant research for a wide variety of projects including playgrounds, sports fields, pathways and trails, community gardens, signs, drainage systems and other related facilities.
The Landscape Technician: performs field investigation, data collection, and research; prepares designs, detail drawings, and specifications suitable for construction purposes; prepares and coordinates cost estimates and requests for proposals; performs inspections during park construction; responds to routine public inquiries and complaints; and conducts other duties related to planning, design, and construction for all types of parks and public open space.
The successful candidate will work Monday-Friday between the hours of 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 pm. (35 hours a week) with a possibility of flex-time and a modified work schedule. Some overtime may be required. Candidates must have sufficient health, physical conditioning, strength, stamina, and coordination to perform work.
This is a C.U.P.E. Local 2011 position with a wage of $39.72 per hour plus an excellent benefits package. Job description and competition information can be found atwww.saanich.ca. Rate of Pay:
$39.72 per hour plus an excellent benefits package
Education:
Two-year Diploma in Landscape Architectural Technology or other similar program.
Experience:
Two years of directly related park experience; experience and skill in computer aided design, especially Auto-Cad, Adobe Creative Suite or a comparable computerized landscape program and other landscape and graphics related software; a valid BC Driver’s Licence; and possession of a private automobile available for work-related use as and when required. Qualified candidates should be familiar with relevant provisions of municipal, provincial and federal acts, bylaws, regulations and safety standards.
