Systems engineering is a cross-functional engineering discipline centered on an approach, mindset, and process. All activities consider both the business and the technical needs of the customers with the goal of providing a quality product that meets the users’ needs. The discipline executes a robust process of design, creation, and optimization of systems, consisting of identification and quantification of system requirements, creation of alternate system design concepts, performance of design trade studies, selection and implementation of the best designs and verification that the design is properly integrated and executed. Process that proceeds from concept to production to operation.
This role influences the quality of both the individual’s work and the work of others on the team. It executes standard operational/technical tasks typically subject to instructions and work routines. There is latitude to rearrange the sequence to complete task/duties based on changing work situations.

Roles and Responsibilities
- Responsible for Mechanical Nuclear Island Support Systems (MNISS) engineering activities that support the BWRX-300 Small Modular Reactor (SMR) design.
- Primary design focus area for this role is the T31 (Containment Inerting) System, which is a compressed Nitrogen distribution system.
- Conduct component and product integration. All activities that span multiple components and products and are concerned with how to integrate for maximum performance and operability. Manages product and systems requirements, specifications and flow down.
- Drive validation and verification activities for the overall product/system, including system level testing.
- Responsible for defining product requirements for the module / component / subcontractors and partners teams.
- Manage interface between components and execution organizations.
- Responsible for driving Critical To Quality (CTQ) / Risk trades within the teams designing the components. Manage the overall product configuration and configuration control system.
- Broadening knowledge of own technical discipline to execute policy/strategy. May include support roles with specialized technical field of knowledge, acquiring higher level knowledge and skills.
- Maintain a basic understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. Understand of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.
- May have some autonomy to make decisions within a defined framework. Resolves issues in situations that require good technical knowledge and judgment within established procedures. Consult more senior team members for issues outside of defined instructions/parameters.
- A job at this level requires good interpersonal skills and may include leading multi-disciplinary activities. Develop strong customer relationships and explain technical information to others.
