Unit Summary
The Neuroscience and Trauma program on 7 West provides inpatient neurosurgical expertise for individuals who suffer from acute intracranial hemorrhages, traumatic brain injuries, and brain tumors. The unit provides high quality, specialized care in a fast paced environment, with 23 tertiary beds, 7 level II critical care stepdown beds with cardiac and invasive monitoring capability, and a designated room for moderate sedation procedures. The SDU accommodates neurosurgical patients from our LHIN and neuro-compromised patients ‘stepping up’ from the ward or ‘stepping down’ from ICU.
As a member of the healthcare team, the Registered Nurse coordinates, evaluates and provides nursing care according to the job description and Standards of Practice for Registered Nurses on 7W.
