De Beers Group has an opportunity within the Environment and Permitting Department at the Calgary Support Centre, for highly motivated and energetic team member.  Reporting to the Manager, Environment & Permitting the successful candidate is responsible for providing specialist advice, guidance and support to operations and projects in implementing and maintaining the requirements of environmental approvals, regulations, and management plans. The role provides focused support related to the successful planning and delivery of environmental permits and management programs, and to monitoring compliance with regulatory approvals. This is achieved by collaborating with environmental staff at the operations and support staff, and across disciplines, to support regulatory compliance activities, and engaging with regulators and Indigenous communities.  The role also provides technical support on water and environmental management and provides inputs into risk assessments, project planning, and incident response and reporting.  The ideal candidate is one who strives for continuous improvement and who is committed to safe working practices while striving for zero harm.

Key responsibilities:

• Provide specialist input that is aligned to wider environmental and business strategies and supports the operations to deliver on their priorities.            
• Write, commission, prepare and/or review reports, permit applications and other submissions to the regulatory agencies.
• Provide expert advice to support regulatory compliance (includes licensing and permitting) and areas of permitting risk.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of controls related to environmental risks within the scope of the role.
• Maintain the permitting system consistent with Permitting Standards including the permit, legal, conditions and commitments registers and communicate legal and other requirements to site staff.  
• Provide senior peer review of submissions prepared by others for environmental permitting or regulatory submissions.
• Contribute to and participate in external stakeholder engagements, including regulators and Indigenous communities.
• Contribute to the successful delivery of all environment plans and programs at the operations and projects.
• Provide advice and technical support regarding water and environmental management to ensure site remains in environmental compliance throughout the life of mine.
• Produce regular reports and information to site to inform them of water management risks and opportunities.   Facilitate solutions for environmental issues together with site staff.
• Provide leadership to junior environmental staff involved on-site compliance monitoring programs.
• Manage assigned consultant work scope, budget and financial reporting for payment of fees.

• Bachelor of Science or Engineering or equivalent;
• Graduate degree preferred;
• Working knowledge of regulatory approvals processes in the NWT, Ontario, and Nunavut;
• Experience in working in industrial operations and/or regulatory agencies;
• Experience presenting and facilitating discussions with stakeholders;
• Knowledge of NWT, Nunavut, and Ontario Environmental Acts and Regulations and related approval processes;
• Project Management skills;
• Strong writing and communication skills;
• Non-specialist knowledge of monitoring and analytical methods related to water quality monitoring and toxicology;
