Alberta Infrastructure is responsible for leading the development of the provincial Capital Plan, which addresses the provincial infrastructure needs of Alberta’s population that support key social programs and services and economic development.

The Ministry designs, builds, manages and maintains government-owned and operated facilities, and collaborates with other ministries to ensure that school and hospital infrastructure meet the needs of Alberta’s population. Role Responsibilities

As the Electronics Technician, you will be responsible for the evaluation, installation and support of complex, custom designed systems, microprocessor hardware and software, and development and /or modification of small to medium embedded applications. You will assist non-technical users with hardware and applications, analyze, and resolve technical problems, and upgrade server hardware and software.

This position is responsible for various areas throughout the Edmonton Law Courts building, including courtrooms, holding cells, and is integral to building-wide security operations.

The contribution of this position impacts critical Government operations for the Ministry of Justice, Provincially and Federally appointed Justices, and Sheriff operations, as well as consultants and contractors. Consequently, immediate response and issue resolution is expected and required to meet our base building requirements to our clients and public in the building.

Additional responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

• Purchasing, maintaining and organizing a stock of spare parts and equipment to provide emergency repairs.
• Ensuring the appropriate backup and recovery procedures are in place for supported software, which in turn support the Clients Application backup, data recovery and overall EDP Disaster Recovery plan.
• Conducting risk assessment and analysis, setting up test environments to test data backups and recovery plans.
• Evaluating and making recommendations based on the applicability of products and their usefulness and ability to enhance system performance.
  

To be successful in this position, you will demonstrate:

• Excellent organizational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritize multiple and competing requests for action.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to convey technical information in layman’s language.

Qualifications

Required:

• A related two-year technical diploma (e.g., Electronics, Instrumentation, Computing Engineering Technology)
• Comprehensive knowledge of:

o Servers, computers and workstations, network topologies, protocols, operating systems.
o Software products supported, vendors and the associated technology (e.g. TCP/IP, Crestron, Nware).
o The interconnection and interaction of various systems within the infrastructure.

Assets:

• Knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code
• Supplemental training through equipment manufacturers and industry training partners

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

• 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
• 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

This position is a temporary (up to 24 months), full-time role with the standard weekly work hours of 40.00, Monday to Friday (7:30 am – 4:00 pm).
