Job description

The office of Julie Dzerowicz, Member of Parliament for Davenport, is currently seeking a qualified candidate to fill the role of Parliamentary Assistant role in the Ottawa office.

Operating under MP Julie Dzerowicz’s leadership, our office is an exciting place to work. We are a team of motivated professionals committed to the well-being and interests of our community. The ideal candidate will be the first line of contact for our parliamentary office and will be the ‘right-hand’ to the MP.

About the role

The Parliamentary Assistant is primarily responsible for the management of the office, and the MP’s priorities in Ottawa. This includes the handling of all incoming communications, the daily management of the MP's schedule, attending meetings on behalf of or with the MP, recording meeting notes, coordinating MP travel in adherence to Members Allowances and Services, and the timely submission of MP and office expenses.

In addition to the management of the Ottawa office, the Parliamentary Assistant is responsible for supporting the MP legislative work, which includes preparing the MP for parliamentary committee work, legislative votes and conducting thorough research and analysis on issues, policies, and legislation upon request. The Parliamentary Assistant is responsible for preparing various parliamentary documents, such as House Members Statements (SO 31s), speeches on both Private Members and Government Bills, responses to legislation, and committee notes.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in public administration, political science, business, communications or related field, or appropriate combination of education and work experience
• Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to effectively manage a busy calendar.
• Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
• Excellent writing and research capabilities
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to respond effectively to short-term demands; able to work long hours when needed.

Asset qualifications

• Experience in providing strategic advice and recommendations on policy issues or other related areas.
• Experience working with a federal or provincial elected representative.
• Experience dealing with senior officials and/or parliamentarians.

Additional Information

Job title: Parliamentary Assistant

Location: Parliament Hill Office

Schedule: Full time with evening and weekend work when the House is in Session.

Salary: Compensation is dependent on qualifications and experience

Closing date: March 11, 2024
