REGISTERED NURSE (1.0 FTE)

Atlantic Assisted Reproductive Therapies requires a Reproductive Endocrine (R/E) Nurse. The position is a 1.0 FTE (37.5 hours per week). Typical shifts are 7:30am-3:30pm Monday to Friday and some weekend/holiday day shifts will be required. AART is a private non-profit clinic. However, our pension and health/dental benefits are the same as public healthcare workers across the province.
Reporting to the Nursing Leader, the R/E Nurse will work autonomously, carrying out clinical practice and delegated medical acts. This requires close collaboration with the attending physicians and excellent communication with clinic staff and families. The role includes both interacting with patients in person to provide care and making phone calls and completing desk work autonomously using an Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
DUTIES:
Provide nursing care to all patients and their families in a collaborative interdisciplinary team environment. This includes:
- Starting IVs, assisting at egg retrievals and embryo transfers, recovering patients, administering medications, collecting bloods, doing paps and swabs, and carrying out all delegated medical acts that have been approved at AART.
- Conducting pre-screening clinic appointments with patients to complete ensure their investigations are complete before their appointment with a subspecialist.
- Teaching patients about their treatment cycles and how to administer self-injections.
- Communicating regularly with patients, families and interdisciplinary colleagues.
- Communicating with our patients in person, messaging them on our patient portal, and making phone calls.
- Assisting with ultrasounds and sonohysterograms.
- Completing tasks assigned to Nursing on our EMR system.
- Work toward the ultimate goal of attaining the highest possible pregnancy success outcomes and live births with the least morbidity and multiple birth rate.
- Work in partnership with Administration to develop policies, procedures and standards, as they relate to the treatment of fertility patients and their families, participating in appropriate committees.
- All nursing staff at AART are expected to advance nursing knowledge by participating in research-related activities and must demonstrate an ongoing commitment for continuing self-development.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Registered Nurse in good standing with RNANS and the College of Nurses.
- Five years previous work experience (women's health experience is an asset).
- Strong verbal and written skills.
- Proven interpersonal and communication skills.
- Previous work experience with a EMR is an asset.
- Previous work experience in a high risk area (e.g., OR, labour and delivery) is an asset.
