Position Overview:

Reporting to the Senior Manager of the Department of Laboratory Medicine, the Charge Medical Laboratory Technologist of Core Automation is responsible for the daily operation of Core Automation (Chemistry, Haematology, and Coagulation), analyzers and equipment; and the effective oversight of processes and procedures in the Core Lab.

Areas of responsibility will include administrative, supervisory, technical, quality management and educational. The incumbent will maintain a safe environment in accordance with professional and regulatory standards and ensure compliance standards put forth by Accreditation Canada Diagnostics (formerly IQMH). 

Qualifications:

Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

• Oversees scheduling, staffing, and payroll for the Core Lab.
• Oversees and supervises MLTs and MLAs in the daily operation of Core Automation and instrumentation
• Optimizes the operating processes and procedures and workflow in the Core Lab.
• Creates/modifies/updates/reviews the operating procedures required for all core automation analyzers and methods in the document control system.
• Ensure the Core automation, and other instrumentation are in working order. 
• Manages and coordinates the validation, and implementation of new methods and analyzers/equipment, and special projects.
• In collaboration with the Lab Quality Coordinator, actively participate in supporting the Lab Quality Management System & continuous improvement initiatives, as well as risk management
• Oversees quality control processes and other quality assurance activities as required.
• Oversees proficiency testing/alternate assessment programs and investigation of discordant test results.
• Collaborates with Quality Coordinator and other team members to ensure the compliance with AC Diagnostics accreditation standards
• Supports management of occurrences, recommend corrective action and conduct follow-ups to ensure effectiveness of resolution.
• Engagement and communication with internal and external stakeholders e.g. other lab leaders, clinical colleagues, Purchasing, vendors, AC Diagnostics
• To develop and support orientation, training and in-servicing programs of staff.
• Nurture a culture of quality, performance, innovation and adaptability.
• Collects, compiles and submit monthly workload to Finance.
• Actively participate in capital equipment planning.
• Actively participate in setting goals and objectives as part of strategic and tactical planning 
• Assists the Senior Manager of the Department of Laboratory Medicine in budgeting and monitoring of financial variances
• Assists the Senior Manager of the Department of Laboratory Medicine in the hiring, coaching and performance evaluation of laboratory staff
• Other duties as assigned/required.
