Library Services department is seeking a
regular, part-time (0.71 FTE ) Library Coordinator, Marine Campus . This position oversees day-to-day operations at assigned campus library and coordinates, plans and organizes work to maintain consistent levels of service to internal and external customers. Responsible for circulation, library accounts, BCIT student identification cards, course reserves, general instruction on circulating equipment, and technical support for library resources. Provides information services, answering reference questions and providing access to print and digital resources in the library and classroom. Conducts library tours and orientation workshops on facility/resources for students, staff and external library users. Answers general copyright questions and provides copyright information/guidelines to faculty and staff. Maintains physical library collections, reserve collection and course outlines in print and digital form and conducts metadata creation for digitization projects such as Open Education. Performs Mediaworks duties by providing 3D printing and AR/VR services on site. Ensures audit compliance with Transport Canada and other accreditation agencies
Duties & Responsibilities DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Information Services: - Provides counter/remote services for students, staff, faculty and community borrowers for accessing library materials/equipment, managing library accounts, and room bookings.
- Answers general information questions and provides reference assistance to local and distance users in multiple modalities and settings using a wide range of resources in varying formats.
- Conducts student orientations and workshops, explains library policies, highlights contents of the library collection, instructs on the use of the library website/catalogue and informs on the availability of resources, equipment and services available through the library and BCIT, such as the Bookstore.
- Provides a suitable area for students and faculty that is free from high noise levels and interruptions as per Transport Canada requirements.
- Supports/liaises with faculty and librarians for creating and maintaining the course reserve collection and class sets.
- Maintains lists of course resources used by Faculty for teaching
- Updates the Marine/Aerospace Campus Library guide website creating links to electronic copies of textbooks and communicates new library information to students and faculty
- Supports faculty in the maintenance, editing, and creation of course outlines.
- Fulfills alumni and other institutions requests for historical course outlines.
- Assists with copyright requests and permissions to copy or change formats of various materials for use by instructors.
- Supports other library departments such as Interlibrary Loan (material loaning to other institutions), Technical Services (processing and deletions), Marketing (promotions and events),
- Liaise with other BCIT departments, such as Registration (library holds on student accounts), the Learning and Teaching Centre (advising the Marine/Aerospace Campus Instructional Development Consultant of resources in the library to aid in the support of Faculty), and Audio-Visual Services troubleshooting BCIT equipment.
- Maintains records in Library Information System, Banner and AMAG.
- Supports students with general inquires, such as access BCIT’s student services departments, navigating the campuses.
- Advises Public Services Supervisor on library usage and provides input in regards to library hours and services.
Collection Maintenance: - Processes library materials, serials/journals, claims missing or late issues; deletes and edits library record for books, journals, damaged materials or items past retention.
- Maintains physical collections: shelving, removing weeded items and damaged items needing repair.
- Conducts inventories and reports missing, damaged or obsolete materials. Ensures currency and availability of library resources, identifies items that need to be replaced or upgraded or that may be of interest to library users and recommends them for purchase to the liaison Librarian.
- Works with the Transportation Department to support the addition and maintenance of faculty texts and class sets purchased by the departments.
- Maintains chart work equipment loaned out by the library: ensuring adequate supplies in each kit and that the tools are in working order.
- Liaises with internal and external auditors to ensure and demonstrate that the Library and BCIT as an accredited institution meet all Transport Canada and industry council/associations requirements such as the currency of regulatory documents, the availability of specific titles, a sufficient number of resources are available for each program, and that the security measures are in place to control access to documents and data.
Provides assistance in BCIT Student ID and Employee Cards duties, including: - Creates and distributes student identification cards as per institute standards.
- Takes pictures for employee ID cards.
- Liaises with Campus Safety and Security over lost cards.
Technology and Digital Services: - Assists students with equipment, such as 3D printers and AR/VR equipment and demonstrates how to use equipment, such as the Learning Glass, iPads, tablets, desktop computers, printers, copiers, and scanners.
- Provides audiovisual support for instructors with library DVDs and streaming resources.
- Troubleshoots problems accessing library electronic resources, software/hardware issues, refers problems to appropriate service.
- Liaises with Library Systems and IT Services to ensure compatibility of library resources with BCIT equipment and systems.
- Scans and digitizes BCIT’s historical course outline collection, adds metadata tags and uploads to information and archival digital repositories.
- Digitizes and converts documents to be uploaded to Open Education platforms using Wordpress and other electronic publishing services.
Financial Administration: - Assists students with card balances and online credit financial transactions in the Papercut printing system.
- Collects cash/electronic payments of fines/fees.
- Performs daily cash balancing and reconciles cash balance for bank deposits.
- Liaises with Finance Department regarding library fines/fees on student accounts.
Supervision: - Supervises one staff member; provides direction on procedures and assists in routine problem resolution; delegates and ensures tasks are completed within timelines and quality parameters.
- Assists in hiring and performance appraisal; refers concerns regarding staff member to the Public Services Supervisor when necessary.
Marketing and Administrative Duties: - Advertises, arranges and hosts library events. Represents the Library in Marine/Aerospace Campus department meetings and events.
- Creates book displays, and promotes library services.
- Gathers and maintains circulation, collections, and library usage statistics.
- Ensures the library is stocked with the necessary offices supplies.
- Receives and distributes Bookstore materials.
- Supports Learning Commons by assisting with advertising and distributing/collecting paperwork from peer tutors.
- Performs other clerical duties e.g. word processing, spreadsheet preparation, desktop publishing, searching the internet and databases, invoicing, photocopying, filing, email and booking of study rooms, as required.
- Reviews, maintains and ensures communication and consistency of library policies and procedures.
- Maintains the currency and accuracy of the Campus Library Procedures manual.
- Works collaboratively with colleagues in all library departments and with other BCIT departments
- Participates in library committees, meetings, training and events.
- Collaborates with Facilities, Logistics, and Security regarding building maintenance and safety & security issues.
- Participates as fire wardens and as part of library emergency services plans.
- When required, makes decisions and advises contract technicians and construction personnel on matters related to minor construction or reconstruction of Library property.
- Undertakes related duties as assigned, consistent with the job grade of this position.
- Shift work is required.
Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS : Definition: The qualifications section for this position was developed using the approved job evaluation plan, agreed to between the BCGEU and BCIT. The qualifications represent the minimum qualifications required in the future (i.e. to be reflected in job postings) and do not reflect the incumbent’s existing qualifications
Education: - Completion of Grade 12, plus completion of a two-year American Library Association (ALA) accredited Library Technician Diploma program.
License(s)/Certifications(s): - Must hold a current valid BC Driver’s License
Experience: - Two years general experience, plus five years practical experience in a related library position, including one year of supervisory experience
Software/Computer Application(s) and Expertise: - Experience with ID card production equipment.
- Ability to use information resources effectively from a variety of platforms and modalities.
- Ability to use iPAD, tablets, AR/VR, printers, scanners, computers, office software, library software, and circulating equipment.
- Knowledge and experience with automated library systems (such as Innovative Sierra) and student registration systems (such as Banner)
- Ability to use cash register including credit card transactions system;
Communication/Interpersonal Skills: - Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to deal courteously, tactfully, and discretely with library clients in a diverse and inclusive environment.

- Physical ability to move book truck and lift equipment or materials of up to 20 kg.

Additional Salary Information External hires are initially placed at the minimum of the salary range with set progressions to the maximum as per the Collective Agreement. Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment
